Question:

Am I going to go blind?

I'm 18 now, I got my first glasses around age 12. I can definitely say that there is a dramatic difference in my eyesight from age 12 to 18. Back then, I could see very far away and up close. Now I can barely see 1 foot infront of me. However, I can see perfectly up close. I can read with no problems, play my handheld video games and stuff like that. But it's all blurry and hard to see if I look far away. I have no idea what my numbers are (like 20/20 and such) but I do know that my vision is very bad now. When I last got my glasses after a few months I started noticing a difference of my vision getting worse. Not like a huge difference in a few days or so but over the months it just got a little worse. Everytime I get new glasses my vision gets worse. My up close vision is perfect, but I can't see far away for anything, When I talked to my eye doctor he said I'm not going blind my vision is just out of focus. With my glasses on, I can't see perfectly but I can surely see a lot better

  1. No, you won't go blind, it's just that as you get older your eyes lose their ability to adjust and accommodate as well as when you were younger, so you will start to see that as you change prescriptions as you get older.

  2. your near sighted. Your not going blind! Having poor eye sight is not the same as going blind.

  3. No, you're not going blind. Your prescription is simply changing, probably faster than you can change glasses to keep up with it. That doesn't mean you're going to lose your sight.

There are some limitations regarding what might be able to fit into a particular frame, but generally, contacts go up to -20 and glasses to -30. Since most prescriptions fall at or below -3, it's EXTREMELY unlikely that anyone can get anywhere near those levels. So yes, you'll be able to get new glasses no matter what.

  4. yes, its your eye doctors fault he gave you the wrong number lens, it was probably too strong

  5. your eyes change the most when you're growing. my prescription got worse every year until i was about 19 or 20. then it evened out. it's still really bad, but i guarantee you it could be worse.  if you can find your prescription, if bet your numbers are like -3.00 or so. it goes up to 24.

actual blindness is caused by eye disease - the back of your eye going bad. your blurred vision is a problem with the shape of the lens of your eye - the front part. as long as things aren't going dark, you're fine. blurry can always be corrected.
