1 being omg you will never get it, 10 being your on the right track.

Small History: Somehow I guessed my way and avoided math at all costs and was tested last year to have a 5th grade math level which shocked me I was thinking more of 3rd grade, because long ago in 4th grade I was awesome at math but it got harder to the point I promised to never learn or try again since failing at it too many times.

Now in college........lol I said I guessed my way....anyway, for the past two weeks I have given math another chance since I don't have a choice and can't guess my way out of this one! I have a total of four months to get basic math before advancing to the next level.

1) For three days I learned by memory my 2 times table...yes I could do times on paper but never by memory and 0's and 1's, 11's and 5's are no brainers and today am on three's and getting there. I could of learned my 2's in two days (I study when I get time) but had a fear of going to the next number of times which was 3.

I believe learning my times table by memory will help me greatly and I have to finish college or I have no reason to live, college is my life and been passing greatly but in a few months math will return..................do you believe I will kknow basic math by then which inculdes..times, adding and subtracting (yes I can add and subtract lol) divison, fractions, and some Geomenty?

  1. Multiplication tables are just memory, and it gets more difficult to memorize things as you get older. But multiplication tables, I don't count as math, it's simple arithmetic.

Are you trying for a math major? There I think you would have trouble.

Or are you just learning enough math to pass a liberal arts major (liberal arts, also known as "would you like fries with that") ? in this case you may be able to struggle through.

Basic arithmetic skills are important no matter what you do in your life, even flipping burgers. So it's not just an attempt to stay in college, it's an attempt to stay afloat in your life.

edit: my mind boggles at the thought of someone majoring in engineering who can't do arithmetic. You have a long way to go, and perhaps you can do it. You have to get through the tables, the addition, multiplication, etc, and have them down solid, and then you have to pick all the other prerequisites, such as algebra and geometry, or you will never make it. Perhaps a year off would be appropriate, so you have plenty of time to catch up.

One last point. You have to be prepared to spend 8-12 hours every day either in class or studying.

  2. not only can you do it in 4mo you can be very good at it. it wont be very hard but it will be time consuming. memorize all of the times tables, and master simple devision. after that i would take some time improving your speed in add, sub, multi, and dev. flash cards will work well. after that memorize the decimal conversions for fractions. that is the best thing i every did for my math skills. it will allow to to guesstimate an answer by rounding then dividing to get an approximation on what an answer should be. next move on to long devision w/remainders then long devision with decimal answers.  finally work on add, sub, multi and dev fractions.  you will probably need a book for geometry. the basics are easy but you will need to memorize a lot of rules. i saw a good book in barns and noble the other day on nothing but mastering arithmetic.

in the long run this could be an advantage for you. the reason most people dont like math is because they missed one simple rule in school that haunts them in intermediate math. every thing you learn will be fresh in your mind. also simple math concepts will be easier to grasp because you have a determination no 5grader has.  most schools have limited free tutoring for students. sign up EVERY time you get a new math class. the avalible spots disappear fast.
