When I meditate I Sit crossed legged with two fingers in a cirlce (middle and thumb facing up), I close my eyes and breathe in and as I breathe out I let out a low "ooohhhhhhhhh". Is this right?

And do you have to be buddhist to meditate? I am lutheran.

  1. Anyone can meditate, religion doesn't matter. I find I need to lay down and play very relaxing meditative music when I do otherwise my mind is too active.

    Find what works for you.

  2. Meditation is a mental training, not a matter of any believe. Just stop your mind from wandering and fix it on any even abstract object or an imaginated light and hold onto it, just DON'T LET YOUR MIND WANDER !

  3. There are many systems and techniques in meditation. There is not one correct way to meditate.

I have included some links below for you.

  4. You don't have to be buddhist to meditate--I'm Catholic and I do it. :) And how you meditate is completely individualistic. So, whatever works for you is the right way to do it.

I just a question just like this the other day, so I won't repeat myself, but give you the link instead:

    Good luck! Peace to you!

  5. You can be any thing you want and still successfully meditate. There is no right or wrong way to meditate, it is a personal thing, and when it is working for you then it works. Some believe that the hand position you describe creates a better energy field for yourself. I gather the looping helps as you make a circle with your fingers.  The vibrations of the note you hit actually has much to do with the chakras. Each chakra has its own note, and I assume that what ever note you are hitting when you say Ohhhhhhh is the one that you need the most. You may want to find out what note it is that you chant so you can relate to which chakra is opening for you and which one you need some work on. Good Luck.

PS, why does everyone think that just because they are some sect of christian that you cannot meditate or believe in spirits or do anything that is a but paranormal????

  6. You don't need a special position to meditate or need to be buddhist. Meditation is a state of relaxation where you can be at peace and aware at the same time.

Practicing buddhism, yoga, and zen might put you in the right frame of mind and seriousness, but in the end you just need to calm your mental self.

  7. True meditation require concentrating on absolutely nothing.,   It is very difficult to train the mind to think of "no thought"  As you try, you will notice that the mind will try to think of something, jump around from one thought to another.  This, almost un-reachable quest is absolute freedom from thought.   Only a dedicated few have the patience and stamina to achieve this goal.  This is part of why Himalayan Monks will chant over and over.  The rhythm and repetition assists in becoming "without thought"  thus true inner peace.

  8. Yes. I do belive that that is right! Remember that you have to clear your mind of all thoughts and emotions. Otherwise you can't focus properly on your meditation! No, you do not have to be any specific religion to meditate! So I think that your good to go!
