Question:

Am I naive? What would you do?

Ok so today I was at the mall with my mom and my brother. After spending like 3 or 4 hours shopping, I realized we didn't have a bag of stuff. When I told my mom, she totally freaked and blamed me and my brother. And when I told her we should go to customer service she called me naive for thinking someone would turn it in (I mean come on, it was Clinique lotion and stuff from Linens N Things).

Am I naive for thinking someone would do the right thing and turn in the stuff?

If you found the bag, would you turn it over to someone?

  1. Well it never hurts to try customer service. Yes I would turn it over to either the mall customer service or back to the store that it came from. Just cause someone else is an a** doesn't mean you have to be. So yeah, telling customer service was a good idea, at least you tried everything to get it back instead of just assuming.

  2. I would definitley turn it in.

In todays world it is a bit naive but it wouldn't hurt to try. Sometimes you get lucky and a decent person comes along the stuff (like the person who came across the person aboves engagement ring and other assortment of things) So ya never know, it's not a waste of time to at least go check and see.

  3. No you're not naive. Not everyone is dishonest. Personally, I would return items that were lost. My conscience wouldn't allow me to take something that doesn't belong to me...and especially putting myself in their shoes and being in need of something.

In fact, just today I had to call up a company that I had placed an order with. When I received my shipment, two items had someone else's name, # and address on them. Two of MY items were missing...and no one knows if someone else has them or got lost in transit...but I hope someone else is honest and would return my items.

Long story short...yes I would return your bag.

Did you go to Customer Service and find out? If not, go tomorrow and find out...make a report so they'll keep their eyes and ears open.

  4. I don't think you're naive. I mean the world is a crazy place. Most likely if there was Clinique lotion and items from Linens-n-Things, then someone probably would have taken it. If I had found the bag, I would have given it to customer service. :)

  5. I would take it to customer service, but I've seen plenty of people keep it.

  6. Somebody returned my engagement and wedding rings I forgot at the gym! I am sooo grateful and glad. Little miracles happen every day.

  7. Yes, I would. Why? Because I am a decent human being. Tell your Mom that there ARE decent people left in the world. I recently left my purse in a shopping cart in the parking lot. When I got home, I realized what I had done and drove 20 mins back to the store. A couple of girls found it and turned it in! I was lucky they had enough courtesy to turn it in. Those kind of people do exist. Tell your Mom to have a little faith in humanity.

  8. Well I wouldn't say, "Of course someone turned it in," but I'd certainly *check*! Did you at least go and see if someone had? She was probably just mad at you for forgetting the bags. If she'd forgotten them I guarantee you she'd have gone to customer service. There are really mean people in this world, but there are also really nice ones. I'm not even one of the really nice ones, but I would have brought your bags in.

  9. Sounds to me like she was feeding the fire.

Too mad to see logic. Too mad to see possibility.

I think it's perfectly reasonable to go to the customer service and see if anyone turned it in.

  10. Your not naive, your an optimist. If I came across your stuff in the mall today I would have brought it to costumer service. I would want someone to do the same for me if I ever lost anything.

  11. I would definately turn it in.

    Karma does exsist,

  12. I'd keep it.

  13. I don't think you're naive.  Many people do the right thing.

Your mother was unnecessarily harsh.  Sure, some people would not return the bag, but it did not hurt to check with customer service.

I would turn over a bag of money if I found it, let alone what was in your bag.

  14. You're being naive if you didn't consider the possibility that someone would just take the bag, trash it, or call security thinking it might be a bomb.  It's just being optimistic to think someone would turn it in. I probably wouldn't because it's a hassle to turn it in and whoever's bag it is would probably come back looking for it, but if it was something that seemed to be of value and might get stolen I would definately turn it over to someone.

  15. the chances of getting it back are very SLIM> sorry most people would see that as free stuff.

  16. yes your very naive.

  17. I would turn it in, or leave it alone. It is best to return the bag to the store it came from, and let them hold it.You and your brother must accept some blame for the loss, but your mother is the adult and is responsible, so she should accept the loss as her fault, you are not pack mules.

  18. depends on what it is

in your situation, personally i would keep it. sorry
