Am I not eligable for medicaid?

I am pregnant and I am using my dads insurance and I have been covered through my full pregnancy. I had talked to my insurance company and they said they would not pay anything for the baby while in the hospital, they will only cover me. I tried to apply for medicaid and I was told I was not eligable. I'm 19, i'm living with my dad but he will not help me pay for anything for the baby I just don't see how I am not eligiable because i'm living with him. Has anyone else gone through this?

  1. I have not gone through this but you CAN apply for welfare OR Medical Assistance.

  2. That's true.  Your dad's insurance covers HIS dependents - including you, but not YOUR dependents - including your baby.

Medicaid - welfare health insurance - is based on  HOUSEHOLD income, and the number of people living there.  So if your dad makes too much money, YOU cannot collect welfare health insurance.

If you move out, then his income isn't counted.  Or, you could marry the baby's father, and see if you both could be added to his insurance, through his employer.

  3. I guess you're not eligible because you have insurance through him.  Try to see if you can add the baby to his policy.  I was under my stepdad's insurance when I had my son at 17.  He added my son under his BCBS policy.  It may allow that with your dad's too.  If not, you can try again with Medicaid after the baby is born and they will usually go retro on the baby to birth (meaning they will pay all bills).

Don't let this stress you right now.   You don't need it.  All you can do is try.

  4. You are not eligable for medicaid because you have your fathers insurance.

As for the baby, when the baby is born ususally people in the hosptial will ask if you would like to apply for medicaid for the child. He/ She will be eligiable as long as they are under income. If not then you may want to find out if your state has any other programs as liek the one listed above from  FL , where you would pay a premuim. But you would have to make sure you apply when the baby is born because those programs do not retro back.

  5. No.

U.S.  taxpayers are tired of paying, paying, paying for irresponsible young people like you two and the illegitimate offspring of unmarried parents

Don't breed 'em if ya can't feed 'em!!!!!

  6. I would suspect that *you* are not eligible for medicaid.  They are the payer of last resort and you are already covered under your father's policy.  Your baby, however, should be eligible if he/she is not under any policy.  The eligibility rules for children are considerably more ,leninet.  Between medicaid and dad's insurance, the entire delivery should be covered.

  7. I had the same issue when i got pregnant and was living at home. In Florida we have healthy kids in which we pay a discount price my premium was like $25.00 a month. I don't know what state you live in but there other state program where u would qualify for.
