I've ordered them and they're ready but I don't want them. I've not paid for them yet. Am I legally required to pay for them or can I just run away?

  1. Why would you want to steal from the optician ?

It's the same as stealing...he has already paid for your lenses..and frame.

You are legally responsible for the cost of the lenses because they are custom made.

The frame can be put back in stock, but the lenses are no good to anyone else.

We , in the industry are protected from people like you with the law on our side to recover the lens cost.

  2. Why would you waste their time if you don't want them?

  3. I think it's illegal.

  4. I suspect that you have entered into a contract with the optician. At the very least it will be verbal.

The contract would be along the lines that the Optician agrees to test your eyes and to provide you with spectacles at an agreed cost.

You agree to pay the bill.

My view is that you would have little grounds to dispute the bill unless the goods fail under the Sale of Goods Act. ie your only excuse NOT to buy would be if your spectcles were NOT of good merchantable quality.

I believe, if the spectacles work correctly and are of good quality the Optician could take you to the Small Claims Court if you fail to pay for them.

  5. this is why specsavers make you pay for them when theyre ordered!

  6. if you did not sign a contract for them so i dont think you are legeally required to do so. Although if they have been perscribed and you need them it may be benifical to buy them.
