Question:

Am I on crazy pills?

For years, I have been hearing how unbelievable hybrids are. I finally bit the bullet and bought a 3 hybrid, and let me tell you...I have no idea how people use these things. I was shanking the ball all over the place. Hitting my 3hybrid wasnt much better than my fairway woods which are awful. I do a lot better with the 3 iron.

I must admit I have always been skeptical of the hybrids given their close resemblance to fairway woods.

Is there something wrong with me? Are there any other high handicap golfers who hate hybrids as well?

  1. Give it time - you may come to love your hybrid...any new club will always give you fits to start.  Hit the range for a few hundred balls, you may find that it is more open/closed than your regular clubs and that might be sending you left or right.

Any long club will be more difficult than the shorter ones... I am a high HC and agree that hitting a fairway wood off the deck is a tough shot.  It just takes practice to learn how and gain the confidence to do it when it counts.

I use the original TM Rescue (22-degree), and I have started to love it.  I can smash it to almost 200, can bump and run to 100, hit it easy for a 175 and chip around the green when needed.

You did not mention which hybrid you purchased.  I would be interested...  Down the road I do see me getting the Bobby Jones Hybrids.  They hit SWEET!
