  1. the other thing to think about is how much space you have left.  if you have to start thinking about which shows to delete, you might want to drop it down 1 level.  if you have plenty of space, then it doesn't matter, keep using the same setting.

  2. Dunno

  3. If you don't care if the picture is crisp, or if there isn't a lot of action in the show you are recording, then record it at the sp or lower recording speed. The picture will still look good enough for enjoyable viewing.

  4. If you've got the space (either on tape, disc or within your computer memory) record at the XP rate.  The image will be much better than SP.  It's just like recording music files, the higher the compression rate, the worse the signal.

  5. good quality viewing needs recording at higher bit rates so more space is used for such recordings and if you have so much space then why to worry any setting will do so long it serves the purpose right.

  6. The answer to this question is the same for taking digital photos. If you have the memory available, always use the highest quality setting. If you're simply time shifting the TV show, then as long as the quality is good enough for you to enjoy it, no problem, but if you want to save it, always go for the top quality setting.

With digital photos, it's always easy the reduce the file size later if you don't need that extra quality. These days memory is dirt cheap, so don't be affraid to use it!

Good luck and enjoy you recordings.
