Am I packing too much for college out of state?

I'm going from Colorado to college in Boston and I probably won't be home until December. I started packing and I have two large suitcases and one medium one. Is this too much? My parents are flying with me to help me move in so they have a small suitcase for their stuff. So between the three of us it's two large suitcases, one medium, and one small one. Am I bringing too much stuff? Anyone have any experience going to college out of state and could help me out? Thanks! Oh and airlines charge for the 2nd checked bag right?

  1. Considering all that you're going to need, between clothing, bedding, and room accessories, I think you're ok.  It's going to get lighter and lighter until you go home then you'll be back to the heavier bags.  Just remember, there are things you can buy there after you're settled in.  Things like cleaning supplies, personal items (shampoo, conditioner, soaps, etc), and groceries, you can buy after you're moved in.

You're going to need enough clothing to get you through the warm weather of now, the coolness of the fall and the cold of December until you can go home.  Then there's the school supplies, the comforter, sheets, bedding, and the things you're bringing with you to make your dorm room more a living space.  I think you're ok.

When you go back home in December you're going to be taking things home with you, so you can take one or two bags back with you, and then you're going to need more bags to move back home in the Spring.  It's harder when you're relying on an airplane because it IS a lot to move back and forth and you worry because it's in suitcases and you worry it's too much.

Take what YOU are comfortable with.  Moving to school is stressful enough, so take what you have so YOU are comfortable.  You can always ship things back home if it's too much.  Your parents can always take things back and remember, you can always buy things once you're there.

Good luck and I hope you have a GREAT year at school!
