Question:

Am I part Irish?

I have some different Irish ancestors that lived a long time ago and the closest one I have would make me 1/32 (not counting the farther back ones, but they gave me some Irish in a smaller degree right?) And my grandmother said that her mom said she has Irish. With all of these different factors would I be part Irish? Maybe this is the wrong place to ask but this is something I was wondering about.

  1. Of course you are part Irish - certainly Irish enough to drink beer on St. Patrick's day and flaunt the old shamrock.

  2. is your life full of irish culture? Have you ever been to ireland? Ever lived there?

if not, then you can hardly say you're irish. Sounds like your more of a classic american mutt, in which case you have no right to claim part of any other culture.

  3. You wouldn't be half irish no - to be half or part irish you would have to have a parent that was Irish. You'd be very little Irish.

  4. You know what? Everyone is part of everything! Look at my avatar, that sums out some basics about me. I did a GENITCS test and results came back that some of my ancestors are west African.

You can expect that you are part everything.

  5. yup

  6. Johnny, you are a part of all your ancestors.

Actually, as you go back you will possibly find more Irish in your family tree.

Your ancestry pyramids.  In 10 generations you can be directly descended from over 1,000 people.  In 20 generations, you can be directly descended from over a million people.  I say "can" because back in the days when transportation was by horse or horse and buggy or carriage, people living in small villages and towns frequently just didn't have a chance to meet too many outsiders.  Frequently everyone was related somehow in those small villages and towns.

But on the other hand, no national origin is a pure race of people.  You had Anglo Normans that settled in Ireland and became more Irish than the Irish themselves and intermarried with the Irish. You have had Irish to immigrate to England and Scotland.

The whole world is really nothing but a bunch of mutts.  I heard an Irishman once say that they were about 80% proof.

  7. We are inherently made of different ancestral backgrounds.  Even though we are born in a specific country, we carry the DNA of our ancestors before us.  Ultimately, the majority of people will have European genes.  So, you most likely are  some part Irish.  Personally, I am Irish, Italian, German and English..........probably among others.  Good luck in your search.

  8. You sound part Irish to me. So kiss the Blarney stone and celebrate!

  9. I think Kermit the Frog is too...cause he's green!

  10. i think so, i'm not an expert but logically if your irish blood is that far back in your ancestry (4 generations as you said) you would also have blood from almost everywhere from the world -if that makes sense-.

in other words, by stating your irish from your great granmother you would also have to accept all the other bloods that have come into your family since; for example

-because its still pretty confusing sorry-  your irish from your great granma and your also what your great granpa is but your more of what your granpa is and your half of what your parents are

so to me, your, like you said irish in a small degree but your also a lot of other bloods - though i'm sure you know that-

plus i suppose it would help if you have an irish surname

okay i think i made sense at least for myself sorry if it didn't click for everyone i clearly have no way with words :)

  11. Well lets see, is there any trait that you see in yourself that makes you superior to other people? Ex. Smarter, funnier, stronger, meaner???? If so then you are most likely part Irish since the greatest traits in man come from Irish ancestery!

  12. yeah you're part Irish.

  13. i think u are not irish i think u are human a social animal like me

  14. Which part do you think is Irish?

Is it your right ear? your left foot?

Maybe it's your right arm. You are

of Irish blood, therefore you are Irish.

You very likely have other blood(s) to,

and therefore you also are those also.

There is no "part" anything. You are, or you are not.

  15. yeah

  16. sure why not?

  17. Yes you are. Have one for old Ireland.

  18. sorry mate, im irish (lived in ireland, both parents and every generation back is also pretty much for as long as im interested in) and i have to say that really sounds like you're clutching at straws....

  19. Barely.

  20. the answer could be yes and no at the same time...ask ur parents more...
