Guys,

I have State Farm and I'm paying $156/month.

I'm a 19 year old with a spotless driving record. I was eligible for the "good student" discount too. My car is a 91 Honda Accord. Not fancy at all!

Am I paying wayy too much?

Thanks..

  1. You can shop around, but make sure your getting the same coverages as you have now. And make sure there are no hidden fees (broker fees). Your with a preferred company right now, you might get with a company that specializes in high risk or young drivers, but sometimes you get what you pay for (customer service, claims, etc.) but if all you care about is price, you might be able to find someone cheaper.

  2. Miguel,

If it is just liability insurance, you may want to check around.  It does seem a little high...but, please remember males age 16-21 are the highest rated drivers.

It is not fair, but that is the way it is.  Please go to progressive.com.  They will show you their quote and 3 others so you can get an idea if you are paying a decent payment or not.....

    Take Care of yourself,

  3. No. You pay that much because you are considered a high risk (due to your age and  inexperience as a driver) Your payments will drop in a few years if your driver record has no points or accidents. Just be glad you own an old Honda and they give you a discount because you had drivers ed. or else you would be paying alot more. Your rate is determined by where you live and the amount of accidents there are in your zone.<<<<<<<One who inquired that same question to the insurance agency when I was your age. Remember, your policy may be different than others eg. coverages for liability, collision, stacked versus non-stacked,towing, car reimbursment, and other add ons to policy. One persons insurance policy may not be identical to yours. Different coverages = different insurance costs! Compare different insurance companies with the coverage you want. Thats how you know if your getting a good deal on price.

  4. You're a dude and you're ONLY paying $156 a month? How is that even possible? That's a great deal, especially since you are a young guy. I have a 20 year old friend who pays almost $300 a month.

So yeah, definetly not paying too much.

  5. Probably not, but it's doing to depend on where you are.  If you were in NJ, which has the highest auto rates, you wouldn't be asking this!

Your credit score probably has a lot to do with the rate, also.

There is no shortcut.  You will have to shop around.  Try a local, independent agent.

  6. h**l yeah i have a friend who's 19 and has a car that is made in the early 90's and has gieco and she only pay's $50-60 a month you are eligible for a discount
