My fiance and I have been trying to conceive for about 4 months (how long I have been off the pill). This month my period was late so I assumed I was pregnant. I began taking at home urine tests every few days waiting for either a positive test or a visit from Aunt Flo. It has now been over 2 weeks, and I don't have any of the most common pregnancy symptoms. I do have menstrual like cramps in my back and stomach that are getting worse but not severe. I started to have the sniffles a few days ago which has turned itself into a full blown cold so I went to the dr. to request something suitable to be taken while pregnant. They gave me a blood test today and said that I was negative for pregnancy. My cycles have always been regular, and I can't understand why mother nature would play such a trick on me. I am losing my mind. Anybody else have this happen to them or something similar? How did it turn out?

  1. have you been stressed lately?  that might have something to do with it.  also change in diet or the fact that you were getting sick . either way i hope everything works out.

  2. You need to find out if you have ovulated because you could ovulate late and that can affect your luteal phase which if not pregnant is no longer than 16 days.  Apparently if you have not ovulated, or you have an anovulatory cycle your lining will get rid of itself within 40 days.

You have been off the pill for the same amount of time as me and I am experiencing some funny things too.  I am definately ovulating but am getting frustrated at not being pregnant yet.  When you say your cycles have always been regular is that when you were on the pill or before you went on the pill?  My cycles were always regular before the pill (and obviously on the pill) but since coming off I have had three 26 day cycles and one 32 day cycle where I ovulated late and had a longer luteal phase.  I also thought I was pregnant and this time round I had what I thought was an implantation dip and bleed and now have AF.  I sympathise with you when you when you ask why is mother nature playing these cruel tricks.  I believe it take a while for the pill to be out of your system and we will become pregnant when our body is ready.

  3. Well, they say it takes 3-6 months sometimes for the pill to work itself out of a woman's system.  Lucky women are fertile right away, but some women form a sort of dependency on it.  Your body is probably trying to regulate its hormones.

If you don't start your period within another couple of weeks, go to your doctor and ask him to induce your period with Provera.

If your blood test was negative, you're not pregnant.  Also, illness can delay ovulation, which in turn can delay your period, so this may all be due to your cold.

    Good luck!
