Am I prescribing when recommending a product ?

When speaking to customers then referring to new sun products how is it that I am not recommending, or prescribing products ?

  1. If you aren't writing out a prescription for them (which would require a PhD to legally write one), then you aren't prescribing. Anything less than that is a suggestion or recommendation (depending on how you word it).

    If you don't want to recommend a product, you could say "other customers like __" or "___ is very popular" or "I personally use/like ___". I'm not sure where your position is or where you're coming from, but those are normally ways to skirt around recommendations. Good luck!


  2. I once read that telling someone to eat a banana for an upset stomach is  prescribing and technically against the law. That was a long time ago and the law may have changed. But years ago a health food store was raided and a floor associate was arrested for doing something like that.
