Question:

Am I reading too much into McCain's choice but...?

it appears to me that the Republican Party has essentially thrown in the towel this election by picking Palin as McCain's running mate. I see this because why else would he pick a nobody when there were numerous, more worthy candidates (Romney, Huckabee, etc.) to choose from? I suspect their new strategy is simply to let Obama win in the hopes that he'll mess something up (if not, they'll make it up like they always do) and then use the usual "fear and smear" campaing they love so much to make a run for it in 2012? Why not choose a nobody like Palin to go down with the McCain ship since he would not likely be able to run in 4 years any way...makes perfect sense to me. You?

  1. She has more experience than Obama.

  2. If McCain thinks he will get my vote because he offered me some woman that I never heard of until this morning, he is crazier than I thought.  I haven't changed my mind....

    .... HILLARY FIRST.

  3. I agree. I think McCain realized he was in over his head and rather than turn down the nomination next week and let someone else have a go at it, he thought it best to lose this election fair and square. There is no other logical explanation on his choice in a running mate. One could argue he chose a woman to pull in Hillary supporters but that doesn't fly. There are plenty of other qualified women he could have chosen.

  4. She's the last nail in his coffin

  5. She isn't a "nobody".  Seriously, look at her resume, she's quite impressive.  Just because you haven't heard of her doesn't mean she's a "Nobody".

  6. Desperate times call for desperate measures. When the DNC is simply a show of Stalin worship idolotry you need to make sensible choices. He must have been at Romney still, I would have chosen him. But when faced with socialism what are you going to do?

  7. This country will fall in love with Palin, she is the best thing to happen in this election.

  8. I love watching you liberals squirm.

  9. The choice of Palin is in direct respose to the historic campaigns and of Clinton and Obama, and the eventual nomination of Obama.

It's not a republican choice, it's merely republicans responding to Democrats.

However, I'm glad that it forced them to respond this way. There may be hope for the gop yet...

  10. i dont know why you all republicans feel like your so smart for choosing john mccain, the truth is that whoever you choose DEM or GOP, prepare to see an even more fd up US in the future. Laugh while you can people, with these candidates, there's little hope.

  11. I think he grabbed her up thinking oh the Hillary supporters will love this just because she's a woman. Even though when you look past that she is nothing compared to Hillary. I thinks this choice will only come back and backfire on him later. Like someone else said if Palin was a man with those exact same credentials McCain wouldn't have given her a second glance let alone pick her for the VP. It's obvious that this was a somewhat desperate pick mostly because she's a woman. The fact that even the people around McCain didn't see this coming is proves this even more.

  12. I disagree.  I think he chose her because she's an impressive politician with a record of reform (she killed the "Bridge to Nowhere").

  13. You're close, but not right.

McCain's campaign saw he was doomed to lose, and tried to shake things up, even though it's very unlikely to work.

  14. Wow, you are going to be very surprised come November. This was a brilliant pick, of a very strong candidate, that perfectly matches with McCain.

  15. It was an act of desperation on McCains part...

    I feel embaressed for him

Im white and im behind President Obama 100%

  16. Nice try Spin, where is Marty?

  17. I doubt the GOP is throwing in the towel.   If they can get enough "Hillary Voters" to vote for a woman, they might be able to swing some close states and pull the election off.

The truth is that there are quite a few women that have been active in politics and waited their entire lives for a chance for a woman to become President.  Some of these ladies are in their 60's, 70's and 80's and this might the last chance that they will to a woman become VP or Prez.

They are upset (bitter) that Hillary lost out to Obama, and some of them may just throw away their core beliefs and vote for McCain out of spite and because of the gender issue.

  18. I think he picked her because he knows he has no chance to win in November.  Maybe he thought that doing something drastic & unexpected would somehow turn things around,  Apparently he is not too bright, though (although how could we expect him to be bright, he is just like GWB & look how smart he is!)....his choice can only hurt him.

EDIT to the person who said white women don't like Obama....THIS WHITE WOMAN IS VOTING OBAMA!

  19. I figure his choice as simply a slap at Obama for not selecting Hillary Clinton.  There is a good chance this woman will be President someday, Heaven help us all, because McCain is a Senior Citizen and, at his age, each day is a gift from God.

She has a child with Down's Syndrome, a boy in Iraq, and three other children.  This is one busy woman.  She seems likable to me, but I hope she is less corrupt than most of those Alaskan politicians.  What a nasty bunch they are!

  20. your afraid and you know it

white women do not like obama and this will just make it worse

  21. she is not a nobody.  Her name has been murmured ever since it became clear that mccain would be the nominee.  You just have not been paying attention

  22. omg...he must not be in his right mind or has he already given up so soon? could be...maybe he's doing it to p**s Hilary off..????? wwhoa...maybe it's a republican game....

  23. I think he is just trying to pander to the disenfranchised Clinton supporters.

  24. no..they just got the oval office kid...Obama never had it    ....even senator Biden said Obama is NOT qualified!

  25. more worrying is that they might win, McCain is unlikely to live 4 years so that could mean we are stuck with Palin

  26. She is perfect

  27. SPONGEBOB

  28. I  am very pleased - she is a gun-toten, ocean fishing, kick *** woman that calls em as she sees em - what a breath of fresh air!

  29. He picked someone without all the political baggage!  He chose someone with corporate executive experience which is so extremely essential for the VP position.    This puts another political "minority" on the ballot...only this time it's on Republican ballot!  WHOO HOO!  Go Mr. McCain!

Here are a few words of wisdom for you.....

Lest us not forget that it was WAR that freed the slaves, defeated facism and communism!

Also, the Bush administration has had more women and blacks in his cabinet then any other president in HISTORY!!!!

  30. Glad to see the true, blue, honest McSame who likes to surround himself with people who are loyal to him; people who he is good friends with. That, indeed depicts Sarah Palin, a woman that he only met once. Even most of his staff didn't know who he was picking because he had to do something after the grandiose DNC. If anyone (including McSame) even had the slightest idea who it was going to be, they would have at least had a button out for the woman. McSame still had that tired "country first" sign on the podium. Pitiful desperation.

If Hillary voters would vote for McSame because he put a second set of ovaries on the ticket, then they should get what they deserve. This woman has almost nothing in common with true Clinton supporters.

  31. youre right!!
