Question:

Am I ready for AP classes?

I am a freshman in high school and I get pretty good grades. Mostly A's. I consider B's not good. A 92 to a 90 is okay, but I'm never happy with that. That's the kind of student I am. I'm not really delighted until I get a 97 or higher. A 96 to 93 is good, but I want to push farther. Sometimes I get mad when I get a 98 or something and I totally was depending on an 100. I've been taking honors classes since they were first offer. I normal work moderatly hard to get the grades I get. Sometimes I feel a class is way to easy, but I've found most of them about right. I'm not too stressed, but there are defiantly periods where I feel way over my head. I'm taking an AP course this year. It's college-level, obviously. I want to know if you think I am ready. I spend my time pretty wisely. I can read fairly fast, if I must, but I best absorb stuff reading kind of slowly. I am pretty good at getting work done on my own, but I do get distracted easily. I have been working on that this year, and its gotten alot better, but focus is probably one of my things I need to work on. Though, I'm very good at focus compared to some of my classmates. It's just I have to push myself.

I take several things outside of school, and plan on taking several clubs. I'm in all other honors classes, other than that. How will I fair?

  1. Hi,

I'm the same way "grade wise," but from what you included, only you can decide if AP level classes are right for you.  If you would like to pursue an AP level course, just make sure the subject is very interesting for you.  Don't just take it for credits or out of parental insistence.  AP classes are meant to give one insight on a future career, so if you think you would possibly major in the subject in the future, you might want to consider taking the offer.

  2. I think you will be fine! I had piano and dance, and I took whatever advanced classes I was offered, plus APUSH. I got really stressed sometimes, but I got all A's and my lowest average was like a 95 or 96. Don't worry about it. Do WHATEVER you can to increase your GPA.

  3. well AP classes are supposed to be tougher than regular courses

and it sounds like you have the right frame of mind....so i think you'll be just fine. I took 3 AP classes and they were tough but i made it out alive lol. Plus i also had time for a life outside of classwork and time to be in a school play. Just don't stress...and take each assignment one at a time. You'll be suprised how much easier it is than you think. Plus the classes are usually smaller...which is always funner.

And for a bonus you will be so much more prepared for actual college work.

  4. AS long as you have the motivation that is sounds like you do then you should be okay.  Just don't beat yourself up so much in an AP class. They are designed to be harder so you should still be reaching for A's but with those classes you shouldn't care as much as to which kind of A's you are getting.

    Good Luck!
