Am I really doing to right thing by joining the U.S. civil air patrol or the U.S.sea cadets for leadership skills? Would it really look good on my college resume, or am I would I just be wasting my time and effort. My mother says that I would, and I might be injured or something. Please help!-I am a medical apprentice and a volunteer with the police-so is that enough for a competitive school like the UCLA?

  1. Medical apprenticeship and volunteering with the police should cover your extracurriculars, so I would say concentrate on your studies.

  2. Didn't tell us your planned major. Unless you plan a military career or will receive a scholarship based on your activities (and need that scholarship), your apprentice/volunteer activities should be enough to show leadership and commitment. Concentrate on obtaining the highest possible grades prior- and post-admission to UCLA. Grades count the most.
