Question:

Am I really infertile?

I am almost 35 now and had a successful and healthy pregnancy and gave birth to a beautiful healthy child at 28 (no problems). My husband and I would like to have another BUT it is not happening. We have been trying for 1 1/2 years with no success. He has been tested and is ok, I have been tested and am ovulating. Anyone else ever run into this? I see so many on Clomide but am afraid to have twins at my age. Has anyone had a D and C to thin out their uterine walls to help the embryo attach?

  1. I agree with Stephanie...

I'm 34.  TTC for 16 months.  Had my tubes checked--they were clear; however, the dr. said it can clear out liquids that they can't see. One month later--I'm pregnant.  It's worth a try.

  2. The only reason they would recommend something like a D&C would be sever endometriosis that did not respond to other treatment.  This is not for you if you haven't had a workup.  You need to see your doctor.  Clomid only gives a 7-10% chance of twins depending on dose schedule.  I cannot carry twins either because of other medical concerns, but I know I have no chance without it, so I take the risk and will face the reduction if I have to.  I'm not saying that is for you - if you don't have medical problems otherwise, there is probably no reason you can't carry twins.  Ask your doctor.  They will do some blood tests and some imaging studies and a sperm analysis for your husband.  Once you have a diagnosis, you will know what your options are.  To me, since you were OK before, it sounds age related.  Perhaps you are not ovulating every month anymore.  Perhaps your eggs are aged.  In this case, you are not as likely to conceive twins as someone like me who just turned 28 and has a FSH of 5.5.  If you are not charting yet, now is the time to start.  Check out www.fertilityfriend.com for a great charting site with a lot of resources for you.

  3. I had a D & C for that purpose.  I would have your levels tested to see what is going on.  I was successful on clomid (matures follicles), metformin (lowers blood sugar, increasing chances of ovulation), baby aspirin (blood thinner), fragmin (blood thinner), progesterone (pregnancy hormone), robitussin (thins CM), and ovidrel (triggers ovulation).  I have pcos.

  4. I have never heard of a D&C for that purpose.  Have you been checked for tubal blockage?  Even if you are ovulating, that meansnothing if an embryo can't make it to your uterus.  Ask your doctor for an HSG to find out.  HSGs can also help to clear your tubes out a bit.  Also ask him about a laparoscopy, to check for endometriosis.

Do you take baby aspirin?  It's said that 1 baby aspirin every day can help blood circulation, which in turn helps keep uterine lining under control.  I take one each and every day, because I have suspected endometriosis.  Make sure you get some that is only 81mg.

Also, you may want to try the rest of this regime, too: http://www.tryingtoconceive.com/howto

I started it not too lon ago, and I am hoping it can help me get my cycles under control.  There are HUNDREDS of success stories on her webpage.  There is no need to try Clomid when there are natural remedies, and they don't increase your chance of mulitples.

    Good luck!

  5. Get the Clear blue Monitor ovulation kits. There are many great reviews from women like you , who have been trying to concieve for years and got pregnant within of month or two after using it. Check out www.amazon.com and type in Clearblue monitor fertilty kit. The reviews from other women are very encouraging. It tell you when you are most fertile. They say its 99% effective. It's very expensive. But if you really want a baby the price will not matter. Try it before you consider anything else like Clomide.
