Am I really underweight? ?

im 12, turning 13 in feb. but anyways, i weight 83ish pounds like after i eat. and im 5"1 almost 5"2 (154 cm)

i come form a skinny family though, it's because i have my dads genetics and he's really skinny. i eat like a pig sometimes, but i dont gain weight?

and also, i exersize alot. im a tennis player and a swimmer.

  1. to a lot of people you might seem under weight but that's just cuz the rest of us weigh like 130.  ur fine. ur athletic, u eat well, it's all great. it is just genetics. nothing to worry about. ask ur doctor if u want. im sure they would've said something if they were concerned. the chinese girls for the oylmpics r like 66 pounds. u'l eventually gain muscle weight and at least u can fit into a lot of clothes at hollister. dont sweat is.  


  2. I think you are underweight esspecially for you height to. I skinny but im good for my height and age i dont gain wait either and i eat so mcuh.

  4. your certainly not underweight. remember you are only 12 yrs old. you have a lot of growing up to do. i think you should keep up with what your doing. That way when you do get older it wont catch up to you. you dont have to worry about anything hun.

  6. well you have BMI (body mass index) of 15.4. 18 or below is underweight. You fall into that, you are not extremley underweight.

    Oh by the way a BMI is just your weight and height compared.

  7. wow so your 83 pounds i'd call that pretty average for someone turning 13 im underweight im 12 (its my bday today :) )and i only weigh 67.8pounds and im 4'8.so ya compared to me your normal

  8. well u still are a lil young and still growing, plus half of your family is skinny. I had a friend like that, as she grew up she gained a lil weight and she looks good now.

  9. My friend is like that.  She's 5'3!  Don't worry, it's probably just genetics, but remember, being skinny doesn't mean you're healthy, so keep up with you're swimming and tennis, and you'll be fine.

  10. well you might be! i am 11 turning 12 in a week and i'm 90 pounds and my sister is 13 turning 14 in january and she is 79-82pounds! shes underweight!

  11. im am that height too and i weigh bout 94...if your fam is skinny then thats probubly why. also, if you havnt started your period, its hard to gain weight even if you pig out....haha i used to do that aaaaall the time!!

  12. Your BMI should ideally range between 18-25 or so. Right now it's around 15.5. But let me ask you this- do YOU feel healthy? If you do, then I don't  think there's a need for you to worry too much about a so-called 'ideal' weight. Sounds like you're naturally petite to me, though a few extra pounds would probably do you good. If you do want to fall into the 'average range' for your height, however, consider gaining ~20-30lbs.

  14. You're very young. Your body has alot of growing to do. Just be sure to eat and try to eat things that are good for you and stay active. You shouldn't worry so much about what you weigh. You're a kid, have fun.

  16. um,well i had a friend just like you she ate a ton and never gain any weight ask you mom and dad or see a doctor to be safe (and she weight as much as you and she is fine)

  17. You are slightly underweight. It's probably because you haven't started puberty yet or have a fast metabalism. Also because you're very active. You'll most likely gain weight as you get older, so don't worry about it. =]

  19. Don't worry, you are a little underweight, but I'm the same, I'm not much of an athlete, though, I have a friend who's really underweight, shes just naturally skinny and she burns tons of calories by running and swimming, so don't worry and eat all you want!

  21. I'm almost 6' and I weigh around 110-115 and I'm 14 and I eat all day long, when I was 12, I weighed 77, so no, you're not underweight.

  23. Yes you are clinically underweight. I calculated your bmi and it is 18. 20 is underweight. You need to build muscle if you waqnt to gain weight.  

  24. As long as your eating right and not starving yourself or throwing it up and not over exercising. Then that is just the way you are. You probably have a high metabolism. But it could also be your tyroid. You might want to go to the doctor and get your thyroid check you could have something called hyper thyroid it makes you really skinny.
