Am I related to royalty?

I am a fourteen year old black girl living in the UK. My parents are both Nigerian and Igbo. It would be my dream if I was related to royalty but I doubt this as my parents were the first people (that we know off) to come to london from our family like grandparents etc not autns and uncles. Is there anyway I can find out? In Nigeria It is so corrupt and hard to trace your ancestors as people dont think that sort of thing is important and there arent any documents like there is in the UK/America. I just want to know If I can trace my ancestors and find out If I had anyone famous/royal in my family. How can I do this, I have asked me parents what they know and they havent been able to give me any answers so far.

  1. I am on it as we speak your Majesty

  2. Why do you think anyone on Answers would know if you are related to Royalty when a person has to really dig that information out of one of the FOR PAY sites.?

Try www.ancestry.com  that should give you the answer.  I really like them and they have a very extensive data base... but you PAY for it.. it's not FREE.

  3. garrison:  don't be so hard on her, she is only 14.   Did you know everything at that age????

  4. I can't understand why anybody would be wanted to be related to royalty, they are just ordinary people who happen to be born into a particular family and some are every bit as dippy and dysfunctional as Joe Blow next door.

Why not work on a special talent that you have so that you can be the famous person in your family.

  5. You really have answered your own question, if you think about it.  You ALREADY know where your parents come from, and you already know that records in Africa are extremely limited.

Genealogy DEPENDS on those records.  And, no, ancestry.com is very unlikely to have records from those areas. As you said.. people there don't have much interest in the topic, and businesses gear themselves to the broadest market.

Your parents MIGHT be able to tell you who their own parents and grandparents were, and perhaps offer facts about them. If they were poor, don't expect to find many records, and it would not make any sense that it would lead to royalty.

  6. I'm 15 and I'm from the US. I've been searching for what part all of Africa my ancestors were taken from since I was 12. The best thing to do is to go to a website called ancestry.com or familyseach.org.These websites have helped me a lot and ask your parents to tell you the names of all the grandparents that they can remember to get a good start.
