Am I right in that a person I know constantly talks about a family?

member with a supposed drug addiction, and all the things that go on with that kind of lifestlye; is doing no good by talking about it and if she is really concerned about him, get in touch with him and be a friend instead just talking about his problems behind his back?

She has a history of family problems that she talked about a lot about folks behind their back. This seems wrong to me and is a factor in a pending divorce. When I see that kind of behavior, it is such a turn off, that I no longer saw her as desirable in any way to be around her anymore, as a friend or lover.

I have found that people who are constantly gossiping about others are

A) have too much time on their hands

B) uneducated and can't think of anything else to talk about

C) jealous of the others lifestyle

Tell that person that you find it unacceptable to speak ill of others and you don't want to hear it anymore. Gossip does nothing but hurt people.

Some people live for gossip; to tell all the dirt about someone else.  It directs attention away from them and their own problems and makes them appear wonderful in contrast to the people she talks about.  If this is someone that you are close to, she will do the same to you.

You can try telling her how unappealing this behavior is, but chances are she will just deny it and then tell other people how critical and judgmental you are.

I know we ALL talk about others at times, but there are those that have nothing what so ever better to do.  It is sickening huh?

I'm kind of at this point with a lady in my building. At first I thought she would make a new good friend, but all she does is talk negative about every woman in our building, but adores all the men.   So, I have distanced myself too.............because I"m a woman  and I know how she talks and what she favors.

I'd distance myself too.
