Am I right in thinking I'll not be able to play my 'old-fashioned' DVDs on Blue Ray?

  1. relax you can play them - and the BlueRay will up/convert the regular DVDs to HD quality. as for 1080P you need a TV that is 1080p = So the average person will not be  able to tell anyway. In short PLAY AWAY girlfriend.


  2. Actually you are wrong.....a blu-ray player will play your "old-fashioned" dvd's and will actually up-convert them so that you get better picture out of them.

  3. blu-ray players can play "red-ray" disks. it's a backwards compatibility thing.

  4. Not only will it play your old dvd disks but it will upconvert them to 1080p which makes them look like high definition.  You are much further ahead to just purchase an up converter (1080p) for like $60 at Best Buy.  They have a Phillips.  You do need a 1080p tv; but, for my money wait on the blue ray, they will be cheap by next Christmas!  The picture on the upconvert player is out of this world and no new disks to buy!!!
