Question:

Am I right to change my name?

Hey there,

Have been thinking about it for a while now ive decided to go through with it and change my name.

The reason I am doing this is because of a 'Cultural Cringe' I developed through bad experiences with my own people.

Ive come to the point where I realise dont want to be associated with the Serbian community because of these experiences and because I see little relevance of it in my present life.

Also by adopting a British name I was hoping it could reflect the nature of my lifestyle here.

But being a social conservative, Im not sure whether these are justifiable grounds to change my name or whether it is just plain unorthodox?

But yes, I would appreciate it if people could share their thoughts.

Cheers,

  1. If it will make you happy, go ahead..

  2. if you've been thinking about it for a while, then do it!

it sounds like you have significant reasons.

i changed my name just over a year ago.

it's hard to get used to.

i just changed my last name, to my mum's last name,

it meant more to me, it makes me feel a part of something.

it sounds like that's what you want, a sense of identity different from what you're used to.

    it that case go for.

and start as soon as possible, because the process takes quite a while.

  3. Of course it is right to do so, it will give you peace of mind in the long run.
