  1. If you haven't been running avidly for more than a month you're probably just getting the regular kind of pains associated with starting to jog.  Make sure you stretch your foot, calves and thighs before and after.  This will help with the pains.

Otherwise, since it doesn't sound like you've been doing it for long, you may want to check out your shoes.  Running is intensive and bad shoes can wreak havoc on your legs.  Whether they are too worn, or just the wrong shoes.  Make sure you have proper running shoes, not like Nike Shox or gym shoes.  Also make sure they aren't overworn, look at the treads.  You generally want to do about 300-400km of running on a pair of shoes.

The pains may also be from poor technique.  This may be caused by the shoes, but if not, it could also just take time before your body adjusts to running properly.  Pains and aches while you run are indicators that you are not stepping or striding correctly among other things.  Google "Proper running technique" just to be aware of any common mistakes or get some pointers just incase.

As for it being boring?  The only thing that can help is running with some fast paced music.  Changing the route can help as well but if running itself is boring to you, none of these will help.  If you are running on a treadmill, run outside.  In short, no there isn't anything quite as good as running but there are alternatives.  Ellyptical trainers and exercise bikes are good options if you have access to or money to purchase some quality machines.  Weight lifting is also a good alternative, doing lower weights for more reps can give you a significant cardiovascular exercise while toning you up.  But, for time spent on the activity, you'll be hard pressed to find anything burning as many calories as a proper jog.

  2. make sure you stretch your legs and stuff really well before you start running because that probably is the reason your legs are hurting really bad. it could also be that your not in shape (not saying that you arent or whatever). try changing your route when your running so you can see something new so your running isnt as boring. to really feel like your getting a workout, you need to push yourself. if you feel like the workout is easy, or just on your level, try picking up and speed a little and really push yourself. you can also do some good strides and some cardio exercises. hope this helped=]]

  3. If your legs hurt really bad, you're probably going too fast. You may want to do some calf exercises as well, to prevent shin splints.
