Am I setting my goals too high?

Well I am 15 years old, 16 soon, and am a sophomore in high school, 10th grade. I have goals for my self, which are to get a really good score on the SAT, graduate with at least mostly As, and to get into a really good school like Caltech (California Institute of Technology). I am an average student, I have achieved mostly Bs in school in the past, I have attended private school for most of my school years, High School is public. Am I setting my goals too high? My mom says I'm thinking about the future too much, but I can't help it. I like to think the future holds a lot for me. How can I achieve my goals? And I do work hard. I was planning to attend this really good private school, but I screwed up on the entrance exam, on the math part, TWICE. So I didn't get accepted, so that kind of discouraged me a bit, cause that was one of my goals. I need advice, what do you think? Are my goals too high? Am I thinking about the future too much? I can't really think about the here and now, it is just so, boring. I like dreaming, and I want to accomplish those dreams. Advice, please.

  1. the higher the dreams, the better. as long as you do something to make it happen. nothing is impossible kid. c:

  2. don't set your goals so high because if you can't achieve them you'll be disappointed. also, try to have some fun and not take life so serious. you're only young once. and life goes by way too quickly. besides i know way too many people who have big, fancy degrees and they work at a grocery store or gas station, so think really hard what you want out of life. if having a degree from a good college is what you want then go for it. but don't forget to have fun, make friends, and find love along the way.

  3. I'm a little bit like you.

I've set my goals really high, and am even younger than you. I've got more-or-less my whole future planned out, including things like schools and grades and such.

I don't think there is ever really an age where you can "think about the future too much." Work hard at your goals, and make sure you know what it will take to reach them. Maybe talk to a student counsellor about how you can fully reach your goals.

  4. your mom is right dont worry about the future to much i mean bush got c's and he ended up president just try your harder to keep up with your school work now your goals i think are reasonable im going to be a freshman and i have the same goals and you went to a private school so you are probably a head of other kids a private school b is a public school a plus

  5. From a paper my TP (thrapist) wrote years ago and still uses to help her clients (ok..patients):

Set goals that are realistic and achievable.

Set short-term goals for the satisfaction of completion

Set mid-range goals to give you time to complete

Set long-range goals that you want to complete, and work your life towards them.

Your thoughts are not too far ahead if you honestly believe you can reach them, and are prpared to change them if you find you can not.

    works for me

  6. It's easy to plan these things...but doing them is a very separate thing.

I've found it's best to just go with the flow, enjoy life whilst you're young and active and deal with problems when they arrive.

There's more to life than school and a good job.

  7. i find that planning things out perfectly makes them fall apart

give yourself some space for change

  8. You're never getting into Caltech. People who have never gotten a math problem wrong in the whole lives get rejected from Caltech. Stop dreaming and jump on your studies.

  9. you're going to college in TWO years.

you should be thinking about these things!

BUT don't let it consume ur whole mentality.

try creating a study schedule that doesn't take up more then 2 hours

&write down your goals so you know what you want without having to think about it 24/7

  10. dont let the future bug you so much...just go with the flow..

  11. To have a good idea of what you wan to do in the future is a wonderful thing to have.

But set goals like Get stright A's on each report card

    Study math more

And to get to your goals in life you need to set short tearm goals to reach your long tearm goals

Good luck on getting in your privite school
