Am I sleeping too much?

I usually take a two hour nap when I get home from work. I wake up for a couple of hours and then I feel tired again so I go back to bed for the night? Could I be sleeping too much? Can sleeping too much make you even more tired?! Thanks! =)

  1. Good sleep is about 7-10 hours. Anything more or less has the potential to take 2 years off of your life. So, apparently, I fall into that. =P

It doesn't really sound like you're sleeping too much though. You could always go to the doctor and they'll test you. Iron deficiency can make you tired.

  2. It is a good thing to take a few naps, If you are tired, then sleep.

Who knows when one person's sleep patterns are too much? It is what's best for you.

  3. Yes, sleeping too much can make you tired. Sort of. When you take longer naps, your body goes into REM (Rapid Eye Movement) which is a heavier sleep mode. When the body is in a deeper sleep, it is of course much harder to wake up, therefore leaving you tired even after a nap. To prevent this, take a 15-20 minute nap when you're feeling tired rather than a long nap. A shorter nap will prevent your body from going into REM, therefore making you feel more refreshed after your nap.

  4. At your age, you should only be sleeping about 7 hours a night. A short power nap during the day is ok, but any longer, and you will end up being more tired. If you are still tired get more sleep at night, not during the day. You have to make sure you make this a habit or it won't work.
