I am becoming a vegan for my future health benefits and environmental benefits, not because I feel bad for animals (might be harsh..but true). So would I still be considered a vegan if I used leather? The only things I would be using it for are....

motorcyle (seats..ect.)

motocycle jacket or boots

and belts

and I don't know if composite leather volleyballs would count.

but thats it.

  1. nottt really.

  2. 1) You're not a real vegan... vegans are vegans because they care for animals and don't want them to suffer... you're just beign selfish and covering it up with the "environmental benefits" thing.

    2) Ummm NO! you are not a vegan... vegans do not use ANY animal products at all... once again, they CARE for animals. Leather is hurting animals just as much as milk, cheese, or meat!

    3) Contrary to popular belief, I am not a vegan or even a vegatarian! However, I am an animal-lover and think that "knock-off" vegetarians and vegans are dumb... sorry to be harsh, but that's my opinion!

  3. No, you will be considered a vegetarian. Vegetarians primarily eat vegetables, but still consume eggs and milk products, and sometimes use leather products.

  4. Not a true vegan...but you'd still be saving more animals than you would be if you weren't vegan at all. I don't think it's selfish if you do what you can. But if you want to be considered a true vegan, I'd look for synthetic versions of all of these.

Good luck with your diet, and with whatever else!

  5. No, you would not still be considered a vegan.  What is the difference of killing an animal for food than killing it for it's hide?

    Definition of "vegan" - NOUN:

A vegetarian who eats plant products only, especially one who uses no products derived from animals, as fur or leather.

  6. No, you would not. Veganism is a philosophy and lifestyle that eliminates the use of animals for food, clothing or what ever from your life.

  7. i would say no, regardless of your reasoning for becoming a vegan.  by definition vegans don't use any animal products.  vegetarianism is a diet, but veganism is a lifestyle and encompasses every aspect of one's life.

just a thought....don't they make synthetic versions of all of these things?

  8. My aunt's a vegan and she gave me all of her leather shoes and belts and stuff so no ur not considered a vegan

  9. By definition, vegans don't eat, use, wear or otherwise consume animal products.  It extends beyond diet and implies a concern for animals.  Someone who follows a vegan diet, but doesn't observe the lifestyle aspects would be considered a "strict" or "total" vegetarian.

Many new vegans continue to use leather they've already purchased, rather than discarding it.  But buying new leather products would not be vegan.

Since you're not in it for the animals, hopefully the label won't be of concern to you.  If you're eating a vegan diet, you're accomplishing your own goals and making a big dent in animal suffering whether you mean to or not and I think most vegans would appreciate the outcome.

  10. no.

why not just use fake leather?

youd get the "look" that you want and you would save an animal too!

  11. No a vegan would have nothing to do with any animal product, even wearing it is a no no
