I even tried putting a little bird bath in their cage but all it did was collect p**p(i was cleaning it every day)

  1. not exactly a bath but when hot splash them w/ water they like it and it gets them clean

  2. You can buy a "bird bath" in the store.  Birds are a little vain and they seem to like baths (and toys for that matter) with mirrors.

Simply fill it with water and put it in the cage.  They might p**p while taking a bath so that might explain the problem.

Also, note that birds only take a bath when they feel comfortable and safe.  Children or loud noises might be preventing them from feeling secure enough to bath.

It took my finches a few months before they started uses their bath.  Be prepared for the birds to splash water all over the place!  Keep the cage away from electronics!

  3. I own and have raised many birds. I recommend filling a spray bottle with luke warm water and spraying your birds. It is an effective and easy way to clean.

  4. Some birds take awhile to figure out that an extra shallow dish is to bathe in. If you haven't had the birds for long they need to feel settled first.

Sometimes birds bathe more often at certain times than at other times. Right now for example, not many of my birds are too big into splashing around. 2 months ago though you couldn't keep them out of the bathing dishes. My lovebirds also enjoy the water to be rather cold, while one of the Quakers won't get in unless it's at least room temperature.

Some birds do ok if you use a spray bottle on them. Other birds freak out completely and all you do is end up with a wet, very unhappy, very stressed out bird, so use the spray bottle idea if you think your birds can handle it.

Keep providing a shallow dish with water, if the birds want to take a bath, they will eventually.

  5. My birds love their bath.  I just put a small bowl in the cage on the bottom and leave and when I come back they are wet and happy.

  6. Sometimes when me or my fiance take a shower we leave the cage in the bathroom on a table and the mist from the shower cleans them they start cleaning themselves. and sometimes i use a water bottle but they like the shower thing better.

  7. I use a spray bottle with mine.  It makes them get water on them and they clean themselves that way.  If you're going to do that just make sure you take the bird outside the cage and then spray them with warm water.  Hope I helped!
