Question:

Am I supposed to clean while babysitting?

Last week, I babysat my younger cousins (my aunt gave me a few things for my new apartment and asked me to babysit in exchange). There were some dishes in the sink, but I didn't notice because I didn't go into the kitchen very much (note: I did not eat or feed the kids on plates while I was there).

When she got back, she commented on the fact that I didn't do the dishes. I didn't know what to say, as I didn't know I was supposed to do the dishes. Should I have? Had she asked me beforehand, I would have, but I didn't even think to.

  1. Well. I don't think you are supposed to. But it would be very nice and kind of you if you did wash the dishes. I'm sure that She'll appreciate it.

  2. if i was baby sitting for my family, i probably would because they are family.....but only if i noticed there were things that needed to be done or if i used something.

if it was someone that i was just baby sitting for, i probably wouldn't because i wouldn't want to get into their stuff.

  3. h**l no.

Babysitters sit babies.  Maids do the housework.  That's insane.

You should clean up any messes you make and that's it.  Tell your aunt to stop being so cheap.  She gives you a few things from her house that I guarantee she wanted to get rid of anyways and pawned em off on you.  You probably did her more of a favor by taking them off her hands.  Tell her to pony up cash next time.  And let her know you don't do windows.

  4. No yur not really there to do the chores. Yur there to watch the kids. Nd if the kids made a mess yuh should pick it up. Other than that yur not there to do tha chores.

  5. You don't need to feel obligated to clean unless there is an understanding between you and the parents that you will.  If your aunt wants extra work done while you take care of the kids, she needs to ask.  Assuming you will and fussing at you for not doing what you weren't asked to do is rude.

  6. It just makes things easier for the parents if the kids are old enough to take care of themselves and your just their to make sure nothing happens or if they're younger and you have time to clean, do it, sometimes they pay you a little more for having the house clean when they get home.
