I always go the speed limit and if i do speed it is on accident.

It seems like everyone speeds! i cant tell you how many times i have been honked at or been given the finger for going the speed limit.

Why is that?

  1. People let their needs override common sense.  They need to get to work on time because they have been late a few times and the boss might notice.  They need to get home because "Susie" or "John" will be getting home from school soon and no one is there to babysit them.  There are guests coming over and you need to go to the grocery store quickly to have all you need.  Because they "need" these things they speed and anyone who is not speeding with them are slowing them down and that's just wrong.

Congrats on going the speed limit just as I and many others do.  You cannot stop someone from speeding but you can ride in the right hand lane and let them blow past you.  Sooner or later they will pay the price for speeding either by having an accident or getting stopped by the police.

  2. I like to annoy the h**l out of everyone by obeying the law and the speed limits that go along with it.  Another law I like to obey is the one which says you need to stay in the left hand lane unless overtaking.  I get abused every day.  No need to thank me (or the question asker, or the other law abiding citizens) for saving you from a speeding ticket, we don't need your thanks.  Don't know where you're from but in my country you can be booked for going as little as 3/4 kms over the limits.

  3. People got to get there faster! If you drive anywhere but the left hand lane you should not get fingered.  Also check your speedometer you may be going slower than it says, many cars speedometers are off by an average of 5mph. When your going 60 MPH it takes exactly 1 min between mile posts.  When your on a two lane bi directional road (one lane only in your direction) If more than 7(I think) cars are behind your close together you must by law either pull off to the side of the road and let them pass or speed up..  If a cop is waiting to give a speeding ticket and you the head of the line with other speeders you will most likely not be the one who is getting pulled over.

  4. if you are the only one at the speed limit, you are going slower than everyone else and putting them at a disadvantage. speeding is anything ten above the limit: cops dont ticket you for going ten above or ten below. but in most cases, going slower than everyone else is a problem.

you want to avoid getting honked at? stay in the right lane, or just hold the accelerator for a couple more seconds.

  5. You have the right to drive the speed limit if you want to. However I will pass you at my first opportunity because I like to drive fast. I won't blow my horn or flip you off. But I'm gonna pass ya....*muah*... ((( It's not how fast you drive...but how you drive fast that matters! )))

  6. First let me say Thank You. Your right, everyone seems to be in a hurry. Why I don't know. Their destination isn't going anywhere.

  7. No your not the only one doing the speed limit you should pat yourself on the back everybody is in a hurry to get where thy are going if some of these drivers been to as many wrecks as i have and pulled out as many body's as i have thy would slow down believe me pulling a body out of a wreck in 4 peaces is not a pretty site

  8. I as well drive the speed limit at all times and I dont let it bother me when some jack*** gets upset because there is nothing that I can do.............................

  9. I do the speed limit as well. I also notice that there are a lot that don't. The other morning on the way to work there was someone directly behind me the lights were glaring right in my mirror, very annoying! I was doing the speed limit and when I got to where I wanted to turn, I put my directional on and turned. This person floored by me and blew the horn!!!! Crazy!

  10. well say it is 40 ok and the person behind u has to go 35 bcuz of a car length of space ok and then the person behinnd that person has to go 30 so on so on

  11. becasue your in the right lane...id do it too

  12. I for one am a person who drives as fast as possible ususally speed limit plus 5 MPH ( except in school zones it is +nothing).

If you drive to the limit, great. My only request is that you you do not use the passing lane as your cruise lane and make me pass on the right. Secondary , two lane highways do not offer much passing area these days so I will leave them out of the discussion.

Passing on someone's right side ( USA)is dangerous and presents the largest of "blind spots". If you are driving slower than some of use please just move right and let us go. You will never get any obscene geastures from me but I might flash my lights if I detect an area for you to move over and do not do it.

What happens in most daily driving is that we encounter SUV's in the passing lane ( left lane in USA) going on or about the speed limit who WILL NOT move over for anyone. We also encounter drivers with cell phones in their ear oblivious to everyone about them.

The reality is that more often than not, about 80%+/- of the time accidents are not related to speed they are related to distractions, Cell phones, radios, computers, make-up, newspapers ( yes newspapers), passengers and today-TEXT messaging. In the US each year we lose about 5000 teenagers to road fatalities. Most of them are between the hours of 3 an 5pm weekdays. We all know what that means. It has little to do with speed as much as a car full of kids ( who were not drinking about 15% of those 5000 are alcohol related).

Accidents are a result of distraction and poor training. Some of us have taken the time to get the training and the cars which allow us to drive safely above the limit. The speed limits in this country were set based on use of cars without radial tires, seatbelts, airbags and antilock brakes to name a few. They were also determined for drivers who learned to drive in highschool by the football coach. That is where the

training stopped. The police and the insurance industry always make it a point to say slow down but really do not address the real problem of a couple of "I can't drive 55" generations who were not taught to drive.

So I ask, if you are driving the speed limit please let me go by and give you a nice "thumbs up" or a wave for exhibiting the courtesy of understanding.

It bothers me that the term "agressive driver" has become a dirty word. Agressive driving used to be when you are driving quickly on a twisty portion of road and using the car potential for FUN. That has turned into a description of the people who tailgate, flip you off, ride with their brights on behind you at night, pass on the right or throw things.

The people who display those traits may be agressive but they are no drivers.

And Traci, We do not need or want you to set our speed for us.
