U say "how do you know it was TSA"? How do you know it wasn't?

I flew Southwest from Sacramento to Ontario,CA for some work. I'm trained in martial arts and wanted to practice with my karambit knife while I was there in my off time. As we all know TSA rules say if you have that sort of an item it must be checked with your luggage, ok. I got to So. Cali everything was fine and accounted for. While I was there, I picked up a service knife and brought it back with me along with my martial arts knife. When I got home and was unpacking I found that the service knife was accounted for but my karambit martial arts knife that right next to it was gone. So now I'm checking all the pockets and what do I find....that d**n yellow piece of paper telling me my bag was selected for a random search.

If it was truly a security risk, why let the regular knife through but take the specialty knife. I've filed a claim with TSA but after reading all these blogs I'm not feeling to confident

  1. Somewhere listed they may have a stipulation saying knives over X inches must be in a certain type of packaging.  It is very likely removed and sent to the "auction house" where the airports auctino off unclaimed luggage and items seized by the TSA.

I assure you that an airline employee such as myself and with 4 yrs experience does not have the time to search through passengers bags nor rummage through such bags. If your bag was a random search item, and your knife was in such bag, it is more than likely they removed this item and did not inform you. I hear these horror stories on a daily basis and know there are some TSA agents that are not exactly honest. A thief can be very discreet when stealing and that does not exclude airport employees wether they are employed by TSA or an Airline, However I do work for a major airline and have to defend us all and say I have never seen any employee go through any bags, we just do not have the time to do this and I would hope that in our company we have honest hard working employees. I would keep up with that claim and make TSA pay whatever the cost was for that knife. It sounds expensive and only TSA would know you were in possession of that knife. Good Luck and I hope you will get restitution for this item.
