Am I the only one who doesn't have respect for Kimbo Slice as a fighter?

Kimbo isn't a real fighter. He's just a brawler. I was watching his backyard videos, and he's just a big *** strong guy who can throw a punch fighting guys who have can't even throw a punch. If you put him up against real fighters like Chuck Liddel or even Tito Ortiz (even thought he has been kind of S****y recently) but still Kimbo Slice wouldn't last in UFC with guys who have games other than striking. I just don't think he's worth the hype. I give him respect for building a major fanbase from S****y backyard fight videos, but not as a fighter. People tell your opinions on Kimbo Slice.

Sorry but you have to have some respect for the fact he's getting in there at all. yeah he's getting paid, but it is not easy. I don't necessarilly like him, and think his attraction is more along the lines of a circus side show, and that he is getting breaks that other fighters deserve more, but you have to respect the fact he gets in there at all.

Do you? Have you ever looked across a ring or cage at somebody who was going to try his best to knock you out or submit you? If you havn't then you have no right to judge.

Anyone willing to train full time and step into the cage gets my respect for being a fighter, and should get yours too.

It's not like he is being ignorant by fighting and refusing to learn anythnig other than striking - he is doing his best to become a well rounded martial artist. That demands respect.

These are all really great answers. I just want to add something. Look how long these guys have been fighting. They have 10+ years experience vs Kimbos 3 fights. Thats all i have to say about that.

Kimbo Slice until recently has never been exposed to martial arts.

However, when you make the comment like here: "I don't have respect for Kimbo as a fighter." Then you're ignorant. Kimbo as a fighter is strong and has the ability to always KO his opponent.

Therefore, he demands respect.

With this said, perhaps you are being specific towards MMA fighting, and Kimbo doesn't have your respect?  You must still accept his abilty to KO anybody with his pure power. And remember the guy is a baby in Mixed Martial Arts.  3 fights, Ray Mercer, former olympic gold medalist, Tank Abbott, who has fought some of the best, and James Thompson, a lower tier respected heavyweight.  Three fights.

When I think of Mixed Martial Arts I can only really think of a few fighters who are indeed masters in their respected martial art, but most who fight don't respect the martial art they trained in. Otherwise they would not be using it for sport.

So, basically what we have is a bunch of guys who want to fight, with arrongance, and zero humility.  Similar to wreslting on TV.  Even the story lines are similar.

But Kimbo Slice as a fighter: Dude watch those youtube videos again.

And ask yourself: Would I fight him?  

Give Kimbo another year of training and fighting.  

I certainly give Kimbo more respect then Leben, the guy who urinated on Josh Koscheck's bedding the Ultiamate Fighter Season I showing.
