Am I the only one who misses sit-coms?

If you look on TV today there are only a couple of sitcoms left. They aren't that great either. Whatever happened to the sitcom? Used to be we could write some great sitcoms and have one a nite all week long. Whatever happened to the sitcom? Why is it only found on the Disney channel with Hannah Montana, Drake & Josh and Wizards of Waverly place, etc. giving us the same plot lines we saw in the 1970's? Only with kids?

Can no one write a funny original sitcom anymore or is it the networks who have gone to all reality programming?

I just miss the glory days of the sitcom. Anyone else?....."What you talkin' about Willis??"

  1. I agree with you 100% on that one.  I never watch reality tv, they're a total waste of time.  I have recently starting purchasing the DVD box sets of my favorite tv shows from the 70's and 80's, I usually purchase them from Amazon.com.  Thank goodness for my DVD's!!

  2. No you aren't the only one.  Prime time TV has become a cesspool of reality, game, and talent shows.  It seems the few cable sitcoms that are still around are geared to teens and young children or a black audience.

    .

A sucessful sitcom has to have a good ensemble cast and that is why I like Brad Garret's show "Till Death" on Fox and "The new adventures of old Christine" CBS, but they are the exception.  "Back to You" with Kelsey Gramer and Patricia Heaton that I had high hopes for, was awful and has been cancelled.  You have to wonder how they could go wrong with that kind of talent but the comedy writing was not up to par.  I suppose the last really sucessful sitcom was "Everybody Loves Raymond".

  3. Don't forget Monk on the USA network - brilliant show.

People will get tired of reality shows soon, and things will get back to normal.  There have always been some crappy shows on TV.

  4. They are still there...they have just progressed through the years.

CBS Monday: the Big Bang Theory, How I Met Your Mother, Two and a Half Men.

ABC Tuesday: Scrubs (moving from NBC, will be a mid season replacement)

NBC Thursday: The Office, My Name is Earl

FOX Sunday: the Simpsons, American Dad, Family Guy

Those are the ones I watch or DVR. I miss Arrested Development that was my fav.
