Is it me or does Roy just not have it anymore? His so called "comeback" performances were pathetic. The first guy was a nobody and the Felix match up was a joke. Does he have any REAL fights coming up? And besides the James Tony fight does he have any other notalbe wins? Seems like he just made a living beating up lack luster fighters.

  1. I have to agree with everybody in here.......he's not as good as he once was but the fact is that whoever saw him fight when he was young would never claim that "maybe he never had it"........this guy was easily the most talented fighter that i've seen.............I honestly believe that at one point in time Roy was d**n close to being both the fastest and the most powerful boxer out there..........and that's regardless of weightclass.    At SuperMiddleweight he was unbeatable...........I compare him to Mayweather right now except to me Roy had alot more power than him...........the combination of freakish skills that Roy possessed made it near impossible for him to be beat............I think he should be admonished for some of the fights that he did take like fighting that postman or whatever he was, but that shouldn't take away from the performances he had against the better fighters of his day..............who else was he going to fight??    I really don't think it matters if it was at SuperMiddleweight..............he was just that good.

  2. Blog stole It From Him

  3. Oh he had it, whatever "it" was, there was a time when Roy was just about untouchable.  One Tarver left hook changed the face of boxing, and after the Glen Johnson beat down, Roy lost most of it, but for the majority of his career he was the best in boxing.  It is sad to watch the greats end their careers with sub-par performances after years of excellence, and Roy hasn't humiliated himself to the extent Holyfield has, but it's getting there.  It's clear it's gone with Roy, the sooner he realizes it, the better, I hope he doesn't follow in Evander's footsteps, he lacks Evanders chin and will end tragically if he does.

  4. Oh wow your stupid "maybe he never had it" Roy Jones Jr WAS the best Pound 4 Pound fighter in the world maybe he's not anymore but you can't say "he never had it".

    SO go play with yourself

  5. HE was the one man show throughout the 90's he cleaned out divisions. There was Roy Jones Jr... and then the rest of the pack. He would play a game of basketball before a match and still not be winded. Sure he is not the same fighter he was then but he is almost 40. And yes he has beaten everyone from Pound for Pound top boxer Bernard Hopkins, current light heavyweight champion Clinton Woods, Julio Cesar Gonzalez, Eric Harding, Virgil Hill, Mike McCallum, Vinny Pazienza and Eric Lucas.

  6. he doesnt have it anymore. he had it. but he was never tested(he never went against anyone big)!

  7. Notable wins?  He embarrassed Bernard Hopkins, and while having a broken hand.  Y'all must have forgot.

  8. In his prime Roy Jones Jr. was awesome.  But like all of us time was his greatest opponent.  The brain and will tell an athlete they're still the same competitor but the body says oh no you're not.  Roy was the only boxer to go from middleweight champion to heavyweight.  But one can only take so many blows to the head and body before a terrible toll is taken.  The only ageless fighter in recent history was George Foreman, and he had God on his side.

  9. Roy Jones is defenitely shot as a fighter. He has not been impressive since beating John Ruiz, and after that he was not the same. A prime Jones beats Tarver and Glen Johnson pretty easily. Trinidad would not have lasted but a couple rounds either. He speed is still there, but even that is not what it used to be. I think his power is about gone. He has not knocked anyone out in forever and does not seem to be able to really hurt guys.

For a time, Jones was probably the best pound for pound fighter because of all of his natural skills. He might not have been the best boxer though. I don't feel all his skills developed as a fighter because he never had to learn the tricks of boxing because he was able to basically overwhelm his opponents with his speed and reflexes.

He did beat Toney and Hopkins pretty decisively. All of his other fights were not really close and he could end them basically when he felt he wanted to.

As far as his future, he could still beat plenty of guys, but if he fights a good young fighter, he will lose. Basically at this point it would be better to retire because he has not had it since he beat Ruiz, and he will never be able to regain it.
