Question:

Am I the only one who thinks Federer will still win the U.S. Open?

I mean c'mon, I know for his standards the year has been terrible, but he's still reached two grand slam finals, and Nadal will be too exhausted to get far in the U.S. Open. Just look at what Novak did to him today. No knock on Nadal, I think he's great also, but because of the style of game he plays it wears him out by the end of the year. Plus how long can Nadal go without his knees breaking down on him?

  1. It's because Federer is in a slump. When someone's been dominating as Federer did almost the past five years and then begins to struggle everyone begins to say he's done. Federer will be back to himself soon; people are too quick to count him out right now.

  2. I certainly think so. I mean by Federer's own standards this year has definitely been quite a slump as far as winning goes. We're used to seeing him win pretty much every tournament he enters and going to every single grandslam final. But the thing that many don't realize is that though he's only won two small titles and no slams, Federer has been extremely consistent the entire year apart from Rafa and Djokovic. He was barely recovering from mono and went to the Aussie Open semi's, then went on to the French and Wimbledon finals, that's the one thing Federer always has over Rafa and Djokovic, consistency and that's why you can never ever say that Fed has no chance. Federer will always have a HIGH chance of winning any grandslam because (excluding the French) he knows what it takes to get to the finals and win.

Then as far as Rafa goes, I mean VAMOS RAFA he's awesome, but everyone knows that usually once the hardcourt season for the US Open starts Rafa tends to go a little downhill. That's mostly because of how many tournaments he plays and his full-throttle style of play pretty much has him burned out by this time. But you can tell obviously that he's getting better on hard courts but really after watching Djokovic pretty much outplay him today I don't know how much longer he'll last. I say Rafa can get to at least the quarters possibly the semi's at the US Open, but it will be tough because there are allot of players who are much better on hardcourts than he is like Djokovic,Federer and many others. Only time will tell.

  3. face the truth mate

everyone reaches an age where they cant play anymore

and in federers case it is now.

i mean cmon he should hav retired as number 1 and lived a king or play long and become the dunce.

Truth is if federer was novaks or rafas age he would have owned the c**p out of them

    HAIL THE FALLEN KING

  4. I still believe in Federer.

  5. dont listen to these other guys...Federer is still quite capable to win the US open.

  6. i surely hope fed can win the US Open to close this year (and probably his career in tennis?). i love federer much and i think he still got something left. let's pray for him.

  7. You know what, lets just make it a Federer & Nadal final for the U.S open, thats just like PERRRRRRRFECT tennis ;D

  8. I disagree. Novak outplayed Rafa today fair enough but Djokovic has also had a lot more time off to rest and prepare for the hard season. Whereas nadal for the past 5 months has won mostly every tournament, so its understanable why Rafa was tired during his match against Novak. Secondly Nadal is the new #1 because he is playing awseome tennis you cant take that away from him just because he lost one match to Djokvoic... That is ridiculous what Rafa has achieved this year is amazing and he deserves the #1 spot. Nadal says his knees are fine sooo dont u worry (stop hoping he burns out) it aint gonna happen. Rafa is a remarkable athlete and treats his body well he never takes any risks that would damage his knees worse, trust me he is fine :)! Vamos Rafa new #1 !!!

As for Roger its up to him how he`ll bounce back especially after losing toronto and cincy pretty early in the rounds...... Ofcourse he can still win the US Open, but there also other players who can too.

  9. I mean he couldn't just forget how to play tennis, could he?and the reason why he's not in such a good shape this year is definitely the mono virus he had early this year.

I had once the mono virus and i couldn't even go to school for like 6 months(not to talk about playing tennis), and it really got me out of form, so i admire him for such a quick recovery but the virus definitely has still an effect on federer's health.so every time he gets a cold or whatever it's not just a cold it's actually a threat for the mono virus to come back again.

and also, i mean he's not getting any younger and nadal is 22 or 23 or whatever and those are really the best years for a pro tennis player and that doesen't help federer either does it?

but still, look it wouldn't be federer that we're talking about if he wasn't such a great personality and such a great tennis player, so i mean no matter what the conditions are you can never really say that federer isn't a favorite to win the olympics or the us open.

  10. I don't think Federer's problem is really his physical ability and but  more to do mentally. The guy has so much pressure to deal with. Staying number #1, expectations of ALWAYS winning his matches and people and media talking about him getting older and his domination being over, winning at least 2 slams a year, beating Sampras' record.  Getting older does stick to one's mind but I don't see his body breaking down (knock on wood).

I do think he will win the U.S. Open if he can get pass the first couple of rounds. To him now, since he's lost to players he don't normally lose to,  it will be more pressure to win those "easy" matches.  It's strange but I thought he has been playing better consistently in general and he looks to be motivated and hitting awesome winners like he used to, but it's the big points that makes a difference wether he wins or loses.  I can feel the pressure when it's breakpoint or something.

I agree about Nadal, he may become #1 but it's a matter of time until his body breaks down.  I'm amazed it hasn't happen yet. In Wimbledon, he practiced 2 hours the night before and I heard it's very strenous drills. And look at his matches.. it never looks easy.

Even Novak has problems with his breathing. These young guys they can get to the top definitely but how long.  And I hope people really start to appreciate Federer and stop knocking him down now that he's not doing as well. it's still pretty darn impressive!

  11. nadal has taken a big risk playing this many tournaments but luckily it payed off well done rafa

  12. Its over for Federer now. He should've retire like Henin a long time ago.....

  13. listen to all you people saying Federer should retire, thats utter rubbish! So he's had a bad year, being sick with Glandular fever would do that to anyone and it takes months to full recover from it. he's made the French Open Final and the Wimbledon final (which he should have won!). He's still the world number #1 to me and I do believe he can still win the US Open AND the Olympic gold medal. Federer will be back better than ever next year and I'm pretty sure he'll break Sampra's Grand Slam record too in the not too far future. go Federer!!

  14. Of course he can still win.

  15. yes i do....i still believe roger will win again us open this yr but the points is he will be seeded num2 n maybe will play novak in semi...n also i'm no worry he play nadal  cause nadal really not that good in this surface...

  16. federer is one of mu fav, to win US open , but i wont put my money on him
