Question:

Am I to small for rugby?

I have a small sleek build, and I am fast and strong. I've done Brazilian Jujitsu, so I can take a beating. I have a passion for rugby, and I would love to play; however, I've noticed a lot of the players are huge, with thick legs. Is there a place for me in rugby?

  1. heck no! i'm 16 i play rugby in singapore and im like around 5'3 and i weigh around 55kilos? yeaa im reli reli small but i still play rugby. im not that fast but hey since u say ure fast and strong, go for it man! (:

  2. two words, Shane Williams, now he is one small player, but good too

  3. Most of the forwards in either code of rugby (league and union) are big, however in the backs there are a number of smaller players. Rob Burrow who is a professional with the Leeds Rhinos is only 5feet 5inches tall. He is agile and fast, but he also has a good tackling technique where he goes for the opponents legs.

Over time with training, weights, desire, and technique literally anyone could play rugby. As you say you can take a beating-that's half the battle over with. Go for it, and good luck.

  4. no

  5. yep definately cos im 5'4 and im 14. i play with people in my school about 3 times the height of me so go 4 it

  6. You're ok...if you have the guts, you can play. Size does not matter.

  7. There is no such thing as too small.  The question is are you fast and agile enough or strong enough or skilled enough:  depending on position and style of play of the team.

Really you just have to find the position which fits your size and abilities and the way your team plays and learn that position.....

For example if you are fast agile and in good shape maybe a winger.....

  8. Size is not everything in rugby. For example look at George Gregan sure he is not the same player that he use to be but at 1.73m tall and only 79kg he is about to play his 125th test which stands as a world record no other rugby player has played more tests. So if you are passionate about rugby give it a crack you can play halfback like Gregan and if you do not want to run with the ball just pass it!!!

  9. i dont think you are at all....

  10. Not at all, you would be a great winger if you have speed, and half backs are usually of a 'smaller stature'. try and play in the backs they are usually smaller than the forewards.
