i'm going into 9th grade, im 14, and 88 lbs.

Football registration was last friday, but i can sign up late.

my parents say that i won't like football, but ive been in gymnastics and nothing else for 8 years and i wan't to try something new.

I am pretty fast, and have pretty good hands,

I am also very smart, so i could pick up plays easily. i hope.

I know a lot of people on here will say yes and no, i want a reason why or why not

i know the rules and everything too

so my question is...

1. am i too small?

2. would i pick it up easily?

3. Should i join?

thanks

and i know the answer is up to myself, but i want to make an informed decision

  1. Never let someone tell you that you are too small. I am five foot seven...one hundred and seventy five pounds and i play college football. And i start at slot reciever, punt return and kick return. As far as being only 88 pounds, you can easily bulk up using  a high protien diet and weight lifting. Things like red meat, red beans, potatoes, fish and protien shakes can add on weight and muscle mass. And being a former gymnist will help you avoid injury because of your great flexability. And as far as learning the plays, High School playbooks are not that complicated to learn. You should be able to hear the play and run it without thinking in about a weeks time if you study. You should definately tryout for you school football team. The worst that could happen is that you dont make it. Good Luck!!!!

  2. Well, I think that you are a bit underweight.  You are 88 lbs.  If you want to play football you need to bulk up.  Since this is high school, your coach will probably tell you the same thing.  You need to gain weight.  I would say you need to be between 90-100 lbs.  When you are a football player that extra weight helps you when it comes to tackles. The lighter you are, the more injuries you will sustain.  I mean you will sustain injuries anyway because its football, but if you are that underweight, then you would not be able to recover very quickly from injuries.  Secondly, I think that if you practice enough you will pick up football easily depending upon the position.  Some positions are easier than others, and it also depends on the coaching style.  Finally, I will tell you to consult your coach before signing up.  You want to make sure that you have a coaches point of view first.  Your weight is probably the deciding factor here.  If you gain more weight between now and then, I would suggest to sign up, but at your weight, the coach probably wouldn't let you, but talk to the coach first and ask him about your weight and let them know what you've been thinking about..

  3. Yes

    No

    No

Two issues here: 1) your just joining in 9th grade? A lot of the guys have been playing together since peewee. You're not going to be easily accepted. 2) your too small unless you are very very fast, in which case, the guys will forget about issue 1 above.

Good luck with whatever you do.

  4. Hit up the gym

  5. you are too small im in 7th grade and im 5'7" and 130 pounds

  6. You can do anything you set you mind to.. however.. hit the weight room dude and go on a junk food binge to get your weight up.. Most players can bench at least 88 pounds and you will get tossed 4 rows into the stands..

  7. yes yes and yes
