My pony, Scotty, is a quarter horse welsh pony cross and is about 14.1 hands tall. He is 4 years old and might still be growing a bit. I am 5 ft, 13, and 93 lbs. Am I too big to be riding him and jumping him?

  1. Heck no! your still good.

  2. A good rule of thumb is that you should have about 3-4 inches of his barrel showing from under your feet (Western, for English, drop your irons and bring your toes up, heels down.).

If you don't have that much showing, then you might start looking for another horse.

  3. If you are 93 pounds you are certainly not too big for him.  At 5'13' you are probably a little tall - BUT, it is certainly not hurting him etc, it just makes riding harder!  Being too tall on a pony just makes it harder to balance and keep your upper body in the center, especially jumping. I am 5'5 and compete and event a pony 14h

  4. no but i would wait to really jump him until he is 5 and his knee's are fully closed.

  5. You're the perfect size for him, and you just might be able to ride him "forever" as the other person said you couldn't.  I got a pony that size when I was 11.  I rode her until she died when I was about 26, 5'3", and 100 pounds.

  6. if you are standing on the ground and your pony has to look up to see you.

you are too big for your pony

if you are riding your pony and you feet drag the ground

you are too big for your pony

if you are riding your pony and your spurs only come up to its cannon bones

you are too big for your pony

if your pony clears the jump but your feet dont

you are too big for your pony

if your pony thinks that your leg is like a kickstand on a motorcycle

you are too big for your pony.

  7. i had a quarter horse pony and he was i think 14.3  and im shorter than you , i was kinda tall for him so i think you would be to  and for weight  you have a long way to go until u need to get off, and for u being that tall and  jumping him it might look over powering but doesn't matter if your not showing

  8. No, you are fine. That is a strong cross breed and your weight is not a problem for him.

  9. Heavens no, if you weight only 93 lbs. I mean I wouldn't recommend you to ride him forever, but I think your good!

  10. You are NO WHERE NEAR too big for Scotty.

If you still want to put your mind at rest get yourself a weight tape. Follow the instructions and you can weigh your horse. Scotty can carry between 20% and 25% of his own body weight.

I'm guessing that Scotty weighs approx. 800 or 900 lbs, so he should carry 20% easily, and that's about 160-180lbs.

Hope this helps put your mind at rest!!

  11. no your not and maybe wait on jumping if he is still growing a bit.Until he is stops growing

  12. I think your fine. quater horses are sturdy and your not heavy at all. your height is fine for now. But, if you get to be about 3 inches taller, i would deffinately suggest getting a horses, especially if you plan on showing alot, in  particular, jumping.

  13. how can you be 5' 13"

    aren't you 6'1"?

  14. You should be fine, don't worry! Have fun.
