Am I too late to claim my tax credit?

Hi

I had a baby in October last year. Stupidly I still haven't claimed my tax credits. I've just heard that there was a deadline of July 31st. Am I now too late to claim for my tax credits? Or was this deadline for people wishing to RENEW their tax credit applications? I am still yet to put my original application in...

If I can still put my application in, will I still get my backdated payments?

Incredibly dumb of me to leave it this long but panicking now...

I think it is just to renew them because what happens if your baby was born after the deadline? They might ask you to prove when you had your baby though.

The deadline has nothing to do with you. Put your application in asap. If you ask, it will be backdated up to 3 months. DON'T waste another day! I know newborns take a while to get used to and it takes a while to adjust so don't worry yourself, you've let no-one down. It's good you know to apply now as opposed to not at all.

Ring them tomorrow, you are entitled to this money so claim it ! Deadline was gfor renewals.
