Am I too old to learn how to play an instrument well?

I've always heard that if you don't start playing an instrument at a young age that will you never learn to do it well. I'm 20 years old and I think it would be cool to learn either bass guitar, violin, or the trumpet. Is it too late for me?

  1. no its not, just practice a lot. if you practice an hour or so a day, or more, you can get pretty good in a year.

  2. Never too late to start, in fact some of my best students have been adults, I think the reason that adults learn so well and quite quickly is because they really want to learn where as children are often learning an not because they really want to but because their parents want them too. Sometimes because they wanted to learn to play an instrument as a child but didn't have the opportunity.

I would encourage you to start and give it a good shot, goodluck and enjoy

  3. No way, playing an instrument is hard at any age and you might have little trouble at first but everyone dose.  If you get lessons from a friend, or at a music store it becomes even easier.  You should try it playing the violin is a blast!

  4. Go with your passion! No, have you never heard of people getting their phd's. and m.d.'s  well over fifty years of age? Go! PlAY!

  5. Never too late - if you want to play for fun and enjoyment. Playing professionally - a bit harder.

  6. I always tell anyone who asks these types of questions a saying I learned long ago:

"You've got to have a dream before it can come true." Follow your dreams -

  7. dont let anything stop you form learning an instument. if you are passionate about something, you are destined to succeed.

  8. No.  I know a man in his 50's that is learning to play piano.  He has the lesson after me so I know he isn't making progress as fast as me but is getting good.  If he can learn, so can you.

  9. Absolutely not.  Never too old.

  10. Its not to late to start learning an instrument. Playing an instrument requires alot of discpline, hard work and time (dedicated to consistantly practicing and improving).

You may want to check your schedule to see if you have time for such an ordeal (between class and work), and if you have the patience to practice ad-nauseum.

You should also set your sights on a reasonable skill level - starting late makes it harder to be a virtuoso, but you can still be a solid player.

  11. nope! never too old to learn an instrument!

    do yo thang chicken wang!
