  1. Unfortunatly, height is a big factor in volleball. but your height has nothing to do with being good or not. if your serious about volleyball, your just going to have to work to show people that your skills make up for your height. your best bet is to play positions such as libero or even setter. but if you would like to be a hitter, work on your vertical!!! if you can jump just as high as the tall girls, nobody will even care if your short. Im 5'8 and i play middle blocker. Normally i would be pretty tall for a 15 year old girl but in volleyball im considered short. My main focus has been improving my vertical. People dont even notice that im going up against girls that are 6'0 or more! Dont let your height get you down, and your only 14 so your not done growing.

  2. Setters are usually the shortest players on the court along with defense specialists.

  3. it doesn't really matter how short you are... the only thing that matters is that you are quick with your feet, and are quick to release on a pass... you should also focus on improving your jumping ability so that you can block and tip... you should also work on having strong wrists.... that will improve your setting (along with strong legs) you should also work on passing and having the right footwork for passing, if setting doesn't work out..

  4. i don't think that you are to short for it as long as you can jump as high as you can. otherwise they will put you in a different position for the team

  5. HECK NO!! i am exactly your age and exactly your height what a funny thing. i am a setter but also a attacker i maybe small but i can jump to 6'0 you can do anything you put your mind to go for it girl!

  6. Height is nothing. Setters usually aren't the tallest players anyway. If you love the sport, go for it. Coaches want athletes that have a desire to win...not whos the tallest & can jump the highest. Consider being a libero too! Good Luck!

  7. No, not at all, unless your're trying out for team USA.

Your setting skill matters much more than your height.

I know a guy who is only 5'3" tall and he was a starting setter in his NCAA div-iii college team.  Of course, there are advantages and disadvantages of being short as a setter.  But if you have really good hands, you can be more effective setter than average tall setters.

You can also be a libero(defensive specialist) if you can pass and play defense really well.

There will always be a place for you in volleyball.

Just don't give up and work hard......

  8. I dont think I have ever heard of a setter being too short. A few years ago the community college in my town had a 4'11" setter. She was really good and you could tell she worked really hard to be that good! once you get older you will probablly just run a 6-2 so a taller right side hitter can go in for you when you are in front row, and you will just set out of the backrow. Or you could always be libero!

  9. You are only too short to be a setter if YOU think you are too short to be a setter.  If anyone else thinks you are too short, it does not matter.  It only matters what you think.

    Keep working at it.

  10. Yes! especially if you are a setter because you have no reason to jump high if you dont hit.

  11. Liberos are always very short.  If you think you are really good at passing ask your coach.  Setters don't necessarly have to be tall, just get some ups.  If you need to set that tall middle a 1, your gonna need to be able to jump set well.  just work out those legs

  12. if you can jump really high and are really good, you should be fine, you're also fourteen-your not going to stop growing for a while. if you're good at passing try being a libero too

  13. At 14, height won't matter too much unless you are trying to be a middle blocker. If you are learning to be quick, have good fundamentals for setting, and want to improve you will be great as a setter!!

    Good luck!

    Anthony

  14. I am only 5'. I play on an elite team for volleyball and I'm told by everyone that I'm "really good." (not to brag) The only thing you need to focus on is being fast. On your free time... work on foot work. As a setter you also have to be able to communicate...ALOT. You can't be afraid to push over team mates. They need to know that unless you call help, to move out of your way. You definitely have to be fast because the passes aren't always going to go right to the setter's position. Balls are going to be flying everywhere. You should also try picking balls off the net. Some passes will shoot towards the net while others will tap the net. Whatever you have to, don't let the ball hit the ground when this happens.  Also, if the passes are tight, you can either jump and hit it down or tip it. You could also try jump-setting. So all-in-all, it doesn't matter how tall you are, just how skilled you are.

  15. AS long as you can jump set, you are totally good.  The objective of the setter is to make the hitters look good, i'm sorry to say.  So if you can set the way your coach and hitters want you to, than you are golden.

  16. Of course not.. My best friend is a setter and she's i think 5 feet tall. I keep on teasing her about her height but when it comes to her skills, d**n! I just keep my mouth shut. She is REALLY good. I'm pretty sure you won't have a problem. Just work hard and prove that you deserve to be on the team. Heck, your only 14! You'll still grow.. Goodluck =)

  17. You should be able to be a fine setter.  Just go for it.

lil Mz Curly says she is your height and can jump to 6 feet.  I would think you can reach higher than that without jumping at all.   She must have very short arms.

  18. NO!! i'm one of the shortest people on the team, and the main setter! it's all determined on skill!

  19. At 14, you should be fine. I'm also 14, and I'm a short setter (5'2) At my high school, you have to be 5'6 to even try out for the team, but I play club and I do just fine. I've actually found that it's the easiest position for a shortie to play. Good luck!

  20. As long as you bend your legs a lot and push up you should be fine if your set is high.

  21. oh no our setter is 4'11 and she is great

& our other setter is 5ft

    she great to

it really doesnt depend on the height

its really the speed you have to get under the ball

  22. You're not too short att all! You could be a barrell in the center back which dives allot. Its always better to have a shorter person doing that. It wouldn't hurt if you were a setter either. Setters just have to be fast and use the proper tecnique.

  23. I am also a setter and i am medium height.  Depends on what rotation you are doing. If you are running a 6-2 height doesnt matter as much because you are not allowed to block or jump anyways.  that is what my team is running and i am the same age as you.  I dont think that a setter has to be amazingly tall.  i have also played lebro becaue i am not very tall. i learned to love the position.  Now i am able to play most positions.  So try lebro clinics to see how good you are at that.  Keep on setting!

  24. thats good im a setter and im 5'3. it depends if your fast and if you can jump high.

  25. Try being a digger that worked for me!
