I am a volleyball player. I'm 16, & will be a high-school junior this year. Is 6'3" is to short to be an opposite hitter? Can I have a future in volleyball being this height?

Thanks!

  1. size doesnt matter but 6'3 is perfect...you can get up over the net n hit it straight down...i wish i was 6'3...

  2. No, 6'3" is not too short to be a opposite hitter. Really no height is required, but it does help. The only thing you need to be able to do is jump high and your ok. As for your future yeah you have a pretty good chance if you have any talent (not saying that you don't). Just make sure to get those spikes down, and you'll be fine!

  3. umm no!! that's an amazing height! soo perfect. i know that lots of college players are around that height, some even shorter that play on the Olympic team too (foluke akinradewo, angie pressey, cynthia barboza, and many more amazing volleyball players). embrace your height!!

  4. h**l No!!!! 6"3" is a great height and it will help you in the long run! Never be insecure about your height! You were blessed with that height for a reason, use it to the best of your ability!

  5. Height can be a key component for an opposite hitter, but I think more important is your athleticism and agility. In other words can you jump and adjust in the air? If you can do those things I don't see why you can't have a future in volleyball. Karch Kiraly whom many consider the best volleyball player ever was 6'2". He played just about every position on the court/sand during his career. Besides at 16 there's a good chance you have an inch or two of growth left in you.

  6. its not so much about the hight as how high you can jump. if you can jump and spike close to the 10' line, you have a future in division 1, if nto you still have division 2 & 3. your tal anough dont worry. but work on our jump and yoru quickness. you should be able to reach at least part of your head over the net. if you can do that. your set. :]

  7. 6'3" is not short. You could have a future ib volleyball if you try being a spiker.

  8. no thats not too short! theres this girl on my team that is about 5'2" and has mad hops and she plays front row. im 6'2" and set and play middle. you will be fine dont worry about it!!

  9. I played two years NAIA DI ball, and that is about the appropriate height for and OH.  But it really depends on you jumping ability and skills.  I heard of some teams that have a front row requirement of at least 6'6" and or the ability to touch the top of the antenna from a vertical jump.

You are only 16, which means you have lots of potential and still not done growing.  I did not start playing until my freshman year in college.  If you have a passion to play you future seems bright indeed.

  10. around 6' 1" and 6'3" is like the ideal height for a front row player. it deppends on your skill more than your height. it also deppends on your verticle jump. i know a girl who is a sophmore and is only 5'9" and plays middle on the varsity team. she has over 20" on her verticle jump. i think your the perfect height for opp. but if you want to become a pro and play in college, i suggest you work on your verticle. Good Luck!

  11. nope. your good.

and it is a possibility to have a future in volleyball, but you are going to have to work hard. being tall wont get you scholarships, being good will.

    good luck!!

  12. i would say thats pretty good but which position do you mean the setter or one of the sides? because the sides spike and height is key.

  13. i am a 5'7" setter at the division 2 level & i have been training this past spring to play front row, while running a 5-1. i played front row all throughout club (mind you i played club for 7+ years) and my freshmen year of college played back row only. i lost alot of my jumping ability & my block timing since i hadn't done it in a very long time. my take on your question is: you can do anything you set your mind to. take it from me, you determine wether you play front row or not. 6'3" is an AMAZING height for a volleyball player, coaches love seeing players like you out on the floor! just get in the gym and determine your future!

  14. ya it doesn't matter how toll you are. what matters is if you can jump up high.

  15. Well dude i will put it this way...I am 5'9", I am the starting setter for my university, height is important but it is not everything....and at 6'3" you have some real good height, plus you are only 16 so you still have some growing to do.

i wish i was 6'3"...i'd be dominant haha...and even at that height you can work on improving your vertical by doing some jump programs, that is what i do to compensate for some of my lack of height.

  16. No way. When I played Volleyball I was only like 5'2"-5'3" and I played outside hitter. I had to work a lot harder than the tall girls. I would say you have a good chance of playing volleyball for like a college or maybe even pro.

  17. Are you kidding me man?

I'm 5'7" and I'm a friggin OH who's most likely going to be playing varsity in Spring 09.

If I can play outside at 5'7"...6'3" is more than enough height to play opposite my friend.
