Question:

Am I tooo skinny? (please help!)?

No this isnt one of those questions of a teenage girl complaining how she is too skinny or too fat...Its just im 13 and I only weigh 70 lbs (5 feet tall) which according to a bmi calculator im underweight. I eat a lot of junk food (even though i know i shouldnt) so if anything i should be overweight. Im not completely an inactive couch potato though, I play soccer and swim and what not...is there a way for me to healthfully gain weight? Thanks (:

  1. 5' 0" and 70 lbs?

    yeah you are. the reccomended weight for someone your height is around 100 lbs.

    you just seem to have a fast metabolism. try seeing if you can add an extra 500 calories to your daily diet. that should help boost up your weight a little, probably not by 30 lbs but by a little.

    i wouldnt be too worried about it though because its just your fast metabolism.


  2. well the thing is, is that just because you look skinny doesn't mean that your healthy. My recommendation is to you, is that you should work out your abs. Muscle ways more than fat. So if you work out you should gain weight, but look the same! eat vegi's and lay off the chips. Limit the candy, and only hamburgers atmost 1 a week.

    also try to make sure that you eat healthily, it helps you metabolism stay up. So you can burn fat, but replace what is there with muscle.

  3. gez ur light im 13 and im 90lbs.. and im 5'2 and im a guy.. yeah ur cool with everyhting else but 70 lbs is alot off from where u should be

  4. To gain weight, you obviously need to take in more calories than you burn. There are several healthy foods you should add to your diet that add healthy fat and calories:

    - nuts and peanut butter

    -avocado

    -lean meat (chicken, fish, etc)

    -bananas (highest calorie fruit)

    -dried fruits (raisins, cranberries, apricots, etc.)

    -whole milk

    -yogurts/cottage cheese with higher milkfats

    -oils (especially olive oil)

    -ice cream

    If you find it hard to eat more, it may be easier to drink your calories. They sell Boost and Ensure Plus drinks at most supermarkets. Each 8floz bottle has about 350 calories, and plenty of nutrients, plus they come in yummy flavors! If you drink 2 of these a day in addition to regular meals/snacks, you will gain healthy weight fairly quickly.

    Weight training is also a way to build up and add a little healthy bulk. It will help you gain healthy muscle weight.

    And remember, you're only 13... son't worry about it so much!  Your body is still developing.  You will surely fill out in time.  I know it's hard, but you need to be patient.  For now, just be confident with who you are and the way your body is right now.
