How much do you have to run (non-stop) to be considered having good stamina?

I'm a 15 year old girl (5 foot 6 - 135 pounds <------i think)

and in really bad shape :S, I'm not overweight (thank god!!!!) but my stamina sucks. I play sports (like basketball) and i used to run all the time up till i was like 12 (lol) and I love running but now my stamina....as i said just sucks :( . The most i can do is like 400 meters and...collapse (not literally). I hear about people running 4-5 miles a day and I feel terrible.

So I know my stamina is bad...but HOW BAD IS IT? And if I were to run more to increase my stamina...how long would it take and how hard would it be?

  1. Start off with trying to run around 20 minutes a day. Mix it up with a few interval workouts and a tempo run in the week. I'm sure you'll do great if you start increasing your distance each week.

I'm 16, and I started working out in the beginning of July or so by doing around 3.3 miles a day. Now, I do around 5-6 depending on the day. Don't forget to stretch a lot to prevent pulling any muscles. Also, eat lots of carbs. I wish you the best of luck!

  2. i have the same problem, and when i started the other day i only made about a quarter mile. but ive been working up slowly to getting farther. just run 10 minuets 3 times a day and dont push yourself at first. good luck! =]

  3. start running whats called a ladder

you start off with 200 meters than take a break than 200 meters again

    (break) 400 (break), 800 (break), 400 (break) 200 (break) 200 (finish)

  4. Some people will never develop in to long distance runners.

Sounds like you may be a middle distance runner.
