Am I under weight now?

Okay so I have been losing weight... am trying to maintain now.. I figured my BMI and it is 19.6 according to the calculator. I am 5'9" and weigh 133 as of this morning. in january 2007 I was 275 and lost most of it between then and April of last spring. At that time I was 140 or so. I am maintaining now on the maintiance diet the Doctor wants me on but my weight seems to be slowly creeping down despite eating more than I was while I was dieting. I am very active...love to exercises now. I run or jog about 4 miles every three days or so.

My measurements are 36C/31/37. Am I underweight? I look thin but not gaunt. I feel strong and am not shaky or anything like that. At what point should I be concerned if I continue to creep downward?

I am a 51 year old female.

  1. Absolutely fabulous Crone!  Bravo!  You're inspiration to us all.  ha ha ha.

Its weird for me its the opposite.  The more I exercise, the heavier I get?  I lift weights mostly but also like to run on occasion.

Hmmm....to stop losing weight...hmmm lemme think.  Maybe your muscles are constantly burning calories for you...they're trained up good for you.  You're body is used to burning anything you eat.

What slows the metabolism down?  We should google that to get a good answer.

  2. 1st of all, congrats on losing that much weight.  that must've taken a lot of hard work.  Now, you're on the low end of being at a healthy weight.  A normal BMI is usually between 18.5 and 25.  But, everyone's different and 133 may not be a healthy weight for you although it may be a healthy weight for someone else your height.  You should ask your doctor.  He or she can look at a variety of factors including your pulse, blood pressure, nutrients in your blood, and thyroid (determines your metabolism) to see if your eating enough and at a healthy weight for you.  If you're losing weight on the matinence diet your doctor has you on, you should talk to them about it.  You'll probably have to add more because your metabolism is running faster than they expected or you might burn more than the average person because of exercise.

  3. hey thanks for best answer, and no your perfect weight and congrats on that, good going, your head strong to lose that much weight. Im with you as well on the christian bible thumpers, im catholic but im no hard core one, i go to church once in a blue, and hate the preaching all these kooks out in this world give to people, my belief is leave religion in the home, its no ones business to 'push' a religion onto you. and most of the 'born agains' are the ones with the most troubles ever.

thanks and see ya soon on here     :  )

    btw what is a wiccan

  4. Sounds just right to me. Congrats! : )

  5. Congrats Ms. Crone, you are really an inspiration!  By the way, I am down about 25 lbs now and I thank you for support : )

That being said, you can't always count on the BMI to tell you much, it just doesn't take the individual into account.  Speak to a nutritionist, that's what I would do.

  6. You're not underweight, but you're getting close. If you don't want to ask your doctor what he thinks, try eating just a little more until you stop losing weight

    Congrats on losing the weight!

  7. I would be concerned now, since your doctor wants you to maintain your weight.

BMI gives no allowance for individual body type. You're in the normal range, but you are on the lower end of it. This could be from having a small frame, or it could be that you are dipping down into the underweight zone. If your doctor wants you to maintain, but you are losing weight, speak to him/her.

Make sure s/he knows about all your physical activities. If you are jogging 4 miles a week, you may need more calories than you are consuming. Maybe just an extra calorie drink or something on the jogging days.

  8. Well, my stats are 32D-23-32. I am consider underweight. Looking at your stats compared to mine, I think it's safe to say that you are not underweight. You sound like you are just right.

You should be concerned if you lose another 10lbs or so. But even then, I wouldn't be concerned if I were you because you will still look good.

By the way, what a huge accomplishment on all that weight loss!

  9. I disagree with the others.  No, you may not be underweight yet, but a continued long-term weight loss, in spite of eating as much as you want, could be a sign of serious illness.  I would get a second opinion if I were you.

    Sincerely, Zuc.
