Am adding ram to my computer need ddr 400 but does it have to be the same brand and everything?

I currently have corsair gaming ram installed (2G) i want to add some more but i dont want to spend alot of money. Can i add a cheaper ddr 400mghz (approx 2 more gigs) to what i ahve now or do i have to add the same stuff that i currently have?

  1. No you don't have to add the same brand.

    The only thing that matters is, that it needs to be the same type and the same clock speed.


  2. Yes, as long as the slot and pins match, i.e., pc3200, etc.


  3. The RAM has to be the same clock speed (DDR-400 or PC-3200) as your other modules, but, you can use any brand you want.

  4. It doesn't have to be the same brand as long as its the same type of RAM.

    I had the same thing to work out when i upgraded my RAM recently.

    As long as you have the correct type for you're PC Motherboard,..and they match each other in Pin Type etc,..then you are fine. ;)
