  1. Darling Harbour/Circular Quay is lovely just for a wander, go to the Botanical Gardens to see the bats (there are loads!) and can feed the lorikeets, obviously Sydney Opera House is worth a look, go to the Rocks and have a look around, take a boat trip to Manley Bay, get the train to Bondi, Coogee is also quite nice, visit the city Museum - they have had some good exhibits in the past, Hyde Park is nice, go to Sydney's Skytower, Climb the Harbour Bridge (you can actually climb it or go to the top of the pylon lookout).  NSW Art Gallery is also interesting to look around, Powerhouse Museum is fun - lots of stuff for (big) kids to do!  Go to Katoomba, see the Blue Mountains  Star City Complex (think that's what it's called) might be good for a night time visit.  All real touristy things but has to be done!

  2. Look at the Mercure, the Capitol, Crown plaza or other hotels in 'city' or 'darling harbour' locations.

For discounted accomodation I recommend Accomline or Wotif (for last minute one month advance). You're looking at $150- $250 per night for a good 4 star hotel.

Another suggestion is Quest or Medina apartments.
