I am going to the library and sitting at someone else's table without asking for permission. I want to make a checklist of what kind of things to look for when I do this (does the subject get up and leave?, does he give me a funny look?) stuff like that. Anything helps!

  1. Any recognition of you at all would be a good start.  I think most people in a public library setting will not even acknowledge your presence.  They will either be too caught up in their own work, or they feel that it is a public place so there is nothing weird about sharing tables.

  2. They might move their books (belongings) away from you.   Rotate in their chair, cross or uncross legs.  Might make a sigh noise.  Start coughing.  Get up and move to another table.  Texting their friends.  Talk to themselves or you.  Eat something.  Take off put on their glasses, roll their eyes.

  3. Look for a brief disconcerted look on their face.

They ignore you very obviously,ie. they turn their backs to you

They look at you with disgust/questioning

They ask what you want and who you are

    They look for others
