Question:

Am freaking out about FAFSA...?

I'm going to be starting college in the fall, and I still don't have my FAFSA in. Why? Because my parents don't have their taxes done yet, because we don't have a lot of money, and they're being lazy idiots.

I have told them several times that if I don't get FAFSA filled out, I CANNOT go to college. I don't have a job right now {not for lack of trying}, and I don't have a savings account {as said before, we've never had a lot of money}.

My college will be about $7,000 a semester, and there is no way possible I can somehow get that money, unless the state or somewhere else like that gives it to me.

The deadline for Pennsylvania is May 1, which is Thursday. My dad was supposed to take the taxes up to this guy to do them today, and he didn't. I am absolutely terrified that I won't be able to go to college.

What can I do? Is there any possible way to get that money other then FAFSA? No one in my family can help me out, and I have no money either.

  1. Sit your father down with you on the computer and on the fafsa website.  Go through all the questions and he can estimate income information and how much of a tax liablity he will have this year.  After you both are finished and he has signed and you have signed the fafsa application with your pin numbers tell him he's going to have to go through the whole process again to correct everything because he's late and it would have been easier to do it correctly the first time.  This will get your info in by the deadline.

Just remember, they won't issue you anything untill you correct his "estimated" WRONG informtion.  Prep them for this.  For the next four years you are going to have to have their info.

  2. weren't your parents taxes due april 15th?

but you only need your parents W2, and they should have that even if they didn't file.

thats to bad, you should have applied early.

  3. Try going online and filling out the FAFSA withouth your parents information.Fill it out as you were the adult applying. I have done this as I am the adult. There' s  no finances to report on your part so you might qualify. It's worth a try. I mean, better than not doing anything which is what you'll end up doing with your slack parents.
