Am i a citizen of the united states?

Question

I'm 17 and applying for college and filling out admission applications. And they all ask if i am a citizen of the U.S.A

I was born in Mexico and came here legally to the U.S.A when i was 6 years old.

my dad became a U.S citizen when i was in 5th grade and my mom just became a citizen last year.

Does that make me a citizen ?

I know i don't have to take the citizenship test because ive already lived here so long

and also to become a citizen has become really expensive my mom had to pay around 600-700. and after she passed the test she got the certificate.

i don't have a certificate does that not make me a citizen or do i have to pay for it then ill become one?

Ask your parents.  They would have had to have you naturalized along with one of them and they should have documentation.

If they don't, you aren't a citizen yet.  As you said though, you've been in the U.S. so long that citizenship would pretty much just be a matter of filling out forms for you.

How exactly did you come here "legally" if your parents were never citizens at the time.

From the info you gave me you are NOT an American citizen.

EDIT: Well its simple you are illegal immigrants and your parents somehow screwed the system to get citizenship cause I cant just waltz into Russia as a tourist and become a citizen..They left you in a f'ed up situation and thats unfortunate.

As long as you came to the United Stated legally and your parents are legal citizens then yes you are an American citizen. You don't need a certificate you are the daughter of two legal parents and citizens.
