  1. Yes, in fact you are encouraged to work. They want you to work & improve your income, so you can get off the SSI!

    There's a certain amount you can make for "free", with no financial penalty. After that, the more you make, it starts to replace your SSI. Finally, if you make more than the SSI amount, you get dropped from the SSI, to continue working on your own.

    Each state differs in the exact dollar amounts, so ask your worker how much you can make 1) with no loss of SSI 2) with some loss of it and 3) totally losing it.

    The idea is, if you lose your job or can't continue the work, you'll still be eligible to go back on the SSI within the 1-year or 2-year time frame you are in.  Check on that length of time, too, so you know the limits the SSI will "keep".


  2. You can work, but if you are depending on your ssdi be careful. In Maine I believe that if you have over $2000 in your bank accounts you lose your benefits.
